Matthew was inspired by the Holy Spirit to protect YHVHs elect from the pagan idolatry of the so-called catholic church. It categorically denounces all the traditions of Rome. You must be reading a strange translation. Matthew does not denounce any traditions of Rome. It does, however describe in great detail the Creation of the Church, and its roles and responsibilities.

(I would not believe in the Gospel, if the authority of the Catholic Church did not move me to do so.)

4 You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments

Perhaps his remarks were only addressed to the “so-called catholic church,” and not the actual Catholic Church. At least that would make a little more sense than the original so-called poster did.
