Hmmmm...so does this mean the Holy Spirit comes and goes in a charismatic’s life? That He can be there and then leave a person? And the proof that He has left is not speaking in tongues? If that is so, then there is no security in the finished work of Christ, we are not truly sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, we can lose our salvation, and “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6) is not true?
It sounds like some are depending on the evidence of the filling of the Spirit to give them assurance of their security in Christ, or even this salvation in the first place.
It would certainly explain the vehemence with which tongues and being slain in the Spirit are defended contrary to the clear teaching of Scripture.
That whole slain in the spirit thing is really curious. Ive watched as some who claim that experience fall over, appear to faint and lay on the floor. Of what purpose is that or could that possibly be for? Did the apostles fall on the floor and gyrate uncontrollably when they received the Holy Spirit? I think not. The theatrics should alert any true Spirit filled Christian to the charlatans who promote such nonsense.
The apostles and all had tongues of fire come and rest on their heads.
But that would be a little harder to counterfeit, now wouldn't it?
Maybe one will pull a snake outta his pocket, set it ablaze and place it on his head while drinking anti-freeze...I bet we could figure out what they were saying in tongues then...”WHAT THE....????!!!”
Who needs the fruit of the Spirit as evidence of the Spirit filled life when you have the gifts?
It’s so much easier than living out the Christian life. Less accountability and responsibility and obligation to minister to others.
Just speak in tongues and fall over and viola, you’re Spirit filled and by gosh, nobody better question your experience.
Is your little cartoon of yourself being “slain in the spirit” and “holy laughter”???
THAT WOULD BE A WRONG ASSUMPTION/ASSERTION. Here's a case where the demonic force was responsible for the physical ailment of dumbness/speechlessness:
17And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
18And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
19He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
20And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
21And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
22And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
23Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
24And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
25When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
26And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
27But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
28And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
29And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
30And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.
I think there's another case or two of demonic forces being rebuked/cast out related to a physical ailment. However, I'm reasonably certain that the above case will be rationalized away so I feel no compulsion to look up the rest of them.
"There aren't any." Was the statement. One is sufficient to prove that UNTRUE.
Who needs to be an ambassador for Christ, praying in Christ’s stead to be reconciled to God through the finished work of Christ, when unbelievers can just watch you and somehow figure out the gospel of the grace of God in your actions..
Thanks for yet more PROOF
that y’all ignore most everything I write . . .
or disbelieve or don’t understand much of anything I write.
Obviously on a roll. Great consistency.
I’d rate that a 10 for catty comments, though.
Pure evidence that it is a counterfeit gospel!
Right! And the many mocking pictures and cartoons are evidence that you are what, exactly? Honorable? Sincere? Loving? Consistent? Okay, maybe that.
I re-read my post to you and I know you knew I wasn’t talking about YOU when I said “you” and “your actions”! I was speaking of your post about those speaking in tongues and falling out after being slain in the spirit. :)
I wasn't saying the demons aren't behind some conditions, but that they are not FREE to cause illness. They are under the control of God and His sovereign will.
And come to think of it, while they may cause some conditions, that is not the same as an illness.
I know some people who think that ANY physical affliction or anything less than perfection is demonically produced. And there are some who think that everything is physically caused and cannot have spiritual roots.
As with anything, the truth likely lies somewhere inbetween.
Yeah, I knew.
One of the drawbacks of the English language.
Thanks for the ping once again.
