I fail to understand the infatuation with where information came from. Bottom line is “does it agree with and is it supported by scripture”. We are discussing beliefs here.
It is not a fascination, rather proof that those here who claim to have come to their beliefs all on their own without any guidance other than the Holy Spirit are not fooling anyone.

Personally, I'd like to see some evidence to substantiate the claim.
I know for a fact it is done by Catholics with regularity as the RM has has had to step in that chastise some of them for it. I don't recall that any of the non-Catholics have done it even though smvoice was accused of it pretty regularly at one point. But that issue was resolved.
