Thanks, RM
Not quite the same thing, we have already had 3 Mormons leave Mormonism and become Christians because of these threads, can’t say that for the other ‘religious wars’ on FR.
Besides, this isn’t Christian v. Christian - this is Christian v. pseudo Christian cult. Another difference.
In the RELIGION forum; too!
Whoda thunk!!!
Is it really a straw man, or just projection on Sandy's part? All Ex-Mo's know that most (not all) LDS are 'fair weather friends', that as long as a person remains LDS, their LDS friends are their friends, but as soon as a person leaves Mormonism they usually lose their LDS friends and family and are shunned. Sometimes they even lose their marriages just because they left the LDS church.
I have said before on FR that I lost all but 3 of my LDS friends - long before I was ever an 'anti' - just because I left Mormonism. So is Sandy setting up a straw man or is she just stating what happens in Mormonism and projecting that on to JR?
Sandy, how would your LDS husband and friends react if you left Mormonism? Is that partly what keeps you in? You wouldn't be the first person to stay in Mormonism in order to keep their friends/spouse.
Courtesy ping to JR.
OMG That is just to funny.
Loved the link to information from 2011 and beyond.
I really think that the author of that strip is either one of the FI’s or lurks on these threads. It is just far too close...
I lost all of my LDS sect "friends", my wife, and they tried to take my daughters too. I had to get, and was awarded, a court order for the church to stay away from my daughters after I exposed to the judge what goes on in their "temples"...Annointing of nude "bosoms" and "loins" with oil, etc.
I have a letter from a stake president telling me that because my daughters were over the lds sect age of accountability of 8, and I had given up my "godly authority to rule over them" by resigning from the cult, I had no right to keep the church away from them. Sounds an awful lot like the FLDS practice of "re-assignment" doesn't it ?
Who? (Is that a trick question?)
yes
Yes, it certainly does!
Thanks for that testimony. I was one of the originals on the ‘anti-Mormon’ threads because of my experiences with LDS here in Nevada. I had found it to really destroy lives. I have been gone for a while, doing anti Reid things, but it is heartening to hear what you said. I so hope that we can bring the concept of grace back to lost mormons instead of their hopeless doctrine of works. The intent has never been to make Mormons into atheists by any of the Inmans.
The lack of a belief in grace is by the way why I opposed Romney from the beginning (besides the God thingy). Romneycare is a result of the endless need of Mormons to ‘do good’, whether needed or not. It is very manipulative, a way to buy their way into heaven.
[In Mormonism, Christ is a stepping stone, He only saves them from physical death, not spiritual death, the LDS dont believe in sin nature, and instead believe that they must work (by being good Mormons, going through their secret temple rituals, baptism for the dead and the like) and that Jesus is really not much more than a really good example (by being sinless He earned His godhood first). The Mormon phrase is By grace we are saved after all we can do.]
If you don’t mind, I will steal that explanation, for I have been at a loss to explain the problem so concisely.
Thanks, FC. And there are many who leave Mormonism for athiesm, but there are also many who leave it and come to Christ. I’m temped to write a book to Mormons in transition called “Ok, so I left Mormonism...now what!?”, an apology for Biblical Christianity. I just need to get off my duff and start writing.
And your analysis of Romney and the Mormon angle is dead on. It is all about how it looks to others (the good they do), not really about God.
Steal away. It is God’s words not mine - He gets the glory. I quit trying to earn godhood almost 20 years ago now.
“I should print that and give it to my doctor. He has a huge mormon superiority complex.”
I call it “getting your planet early”. I’m not Mormon, but got raked over the coals by Mormons in business ventures and came to that conclusion on my own through my solitary research. I’ve since had it confirmed by many.
(THEN watch the bucks roll in!!!)
throwing a sop to Cerberus!
LOL
