5 months? Every Mormon kid I’ve ever known goes on a two year mission. Why was Romney’s so short?
That was my question. Every kid in our neighborhood in Bountiful, Utah went on a mission for 2 years (paid for by the family of course). Mittens must have been a total failure.
Romney, unlike just about every Mormon missionary out there, got "promoted" to "Assistant to the Missionary President" and lived in a palace:

The above-linked article says that Romney handlers told the Lds missionary president not to speak about Romney's residential quarters in France.
While in Paris, Romney was driving a vehicle that was involved in a car accident. The wife of the Missionary President died.

He was talking about 5 months in one specific city. Missionaries get transferred around every few months. Mitt was on an LDS mission for 29 months total in various parts of France.
As we don’t know the specifics of the other areas, the article is misleading.
Re: 5 months - he is talking about a single city, not his entire mission. He served the full time of 2ish years in france, but only 5 months in that one city.
