Hmmmm. One time when I belonged to Faith, Hope & Love Church in Issquah WA a family showed up at our church; they were homeless and living out of their car. This was a Dad, Mom & three little girls. We stupidly brought them home with us to “help” them. Oh, it became a nightmare from hell. I took the kids for medical checkup; one of the children was anemic and the Mom turned around and lost or sold her meds. I got the older girl signed up for Head Start but the Mom could not even walk her own daughter across the street to be picked up by the free van transport. Turns out both Mom and Dad were druggies and on the lamb. They use their children to exploit anyone who is stupid enough to fall for it which we were - stupid! I finally had to contact CPS., One of the girls went to one grandma; the other two went to the other grandma. Poor grandmas!!

Oh, by the way, Faith, Hope & Love church split up and the pastor made off with the “building fund” into which my husband and I had deposited $1,700.00.

I think the LDS Church has a better idea when it comes to actually helping people. Whew!!

“Seriously Sandy, you post an article and then become the first post attacking people before anyone has been posted.”

Maybe it’s your track record of attacking anything Mormon? Don’t be so angry that she beat you to the punch.

Once you ping the other little girls in your ‘club’, I gaurantee they will unleash their usual assault on LDS.

So there are shysters out there everywhere, it does not mean a church body refuses to help those in need because one of those who act in need might be dishonest.
My lds aunt laid in the hospital for weeks and weeks with a brain tumor. My lds uncle had four young kids at home. Not one person came to care for the kids or clean the house or even bring food (accept a pizza for Thanksgiving), not one love offering at ward to help with the expenses (they went on to lose everything because of the medicals expenses beyond their insurance), REPEAT no one from their ward, no one from the rest of lds families, NO ONE helped them.
Oh, yes and my uncle was the bishop, you would have thought he'd be the first one they'd help.
I am sure you are now saying, “well why didn't you help”, because I didn't know. When I refused to convert to mormonISM I was shunned.
It has taken nearly 20 years to restore even minimal contact.
Charity, hardly no act of charity towards this part of my lds family.
All but one cousin left lds because of the way they were treated. This aunt and uncle dutifully remain. My uncle even sings in the MTC. The one who stayed, well her story ends in a great tragedy.

I don't subscribe to Mormonism, but you are a good lady and by and large they are a good people.

And I love the self-reliance and provisions-storage thing.

I love hitting it with pings.

A wise man once told me, though, "Never wrestle with a ping. You'll get dirty and the ping will enjoy it."

By jove, I think I've got it. By your definition, Habitat for Humanity isn't a real charity either because it requires the recipients to actually work on building their homes.

I guess that's totally consistent with the faction of Christianity which thinks they can believe themselves into heaven and/or thinks they are predestined and that absolutely no effort is required. That's one key reason why they harbor a special hated for Mormons and Catholics for disagreeing with this view.

Sort of like the libtards who hate conservatives who just won't recognize that they have a right to rule because they are so much smarter and more charitable than the rest of us unwashed.

Yinz not only claim the right to define who is and who is not Christian, but now yinz also claim the right to define what is and what is not charity! Silly me for not figuring this out until now.

Did you expect a return on that money? If not it was an offering to that church. I'll be that the books of that church - even in the face of its split - were far more open than the books of lds inc. How much of your tithe money has gone into the 4 BILLION dollar money pit mall in SLC? You will never know BECAUSE the church will not open its books for members to review.

Turns out both Mom and Dad were druggies and on the lamb. They use their children to exploit anyone who is stupid enough to fall for it which we were - stupid! I finally had to contact CPS.,

Are you telling us lds wouldn't report these types to CPS as well? Is that YOUR concept of a better idea?

I find it odd then that Mormon politicians are such ardent cheerleaders of the tyrannical nanny welfare state. A heck of a disconnect.

Shallow is the PR effort here. Shannon Toronto, COO of The Philanthropy Roundtable - is mormon. Not quite the unbiased assessment of philanthropy the news article is attempting to promulgate.

So, what’s the word on that “feds demand customer list from LDS distribution center” rumor?

The story was pulled at the source for cause and therefore the Free Republic thread was also pulled.

If the OK’s pulled it, then it must have been a farce.

That rumor bothered me worse than the current folks’ propensity to restrict guns. You EXPECT them to restrict guns - when they go after food... well, we might as well consider it “on”.

Doesn’t work for lots of folks. While Mormons have big families and fairly aggressive proselytizing efforts, that masks the fact that they also have very large numbers of drop-outs. In fact, I’ve known 2X as many ex-Mormons as Mormons. I realize that’s anecdotal, but still....
