My Mariology is Eastern Orthodox. Mariology cannot be understood apart from Christology. Mary is who she is because she alone bore God in her womb.
That is why icons of the Virgin Mary always depict Mary pointing to her Son as the way to salvation. Just think about this. Jesus changed water to wine at her request.
Jesus created the universe, yet he yielded to a mere creation. So imagine how much more powerful her prayers are than ours.
