Ah, yes, pagan comparisons: the final refuge of the anti-Christian.

I’ve seen it among atheists, agnostics and anti-Christians before. By comparing similarities of pagan gods and myths, they think they “explain away” Christ as just another version.

Melicertes, Melqart, Ugaritic Baa, Adonis, Osiris, Dumuzi, Heracles, Eshmun, Alcmene, Castor… various similarities in names or heritage, “son a god, resurrected, immortal, born a man,’ etc., Christ is thereby, according to them, either the same only re-branded, or either a myth or a hoax for the superstitious, etc.

No matter where one begins, once one starts down this road on their own, they tend to continue. What they think as a weapon against part of the Church can easily become the weapon they use on Christianity as a whole, they battle themselves with it, and lose.

I’ve seen adamant “Christian’ anti-Catholics on FR end up first as Arians and then denying the divinity of Christ in the span of a couple of years.

Ironic how every symbol used by the RCC comes from pagan practices isn’t it?
