Gay Episcopal Bishop to Preach at San Francisco Catholic Parish
Catholic Culture ^ | 11/22/11

A notoriously 'gay-friendly' parish in San Francisco has invited an openly homosexual Episcopalian cleric to lead an Advent Vespers service.

Most Holy Redeemer parish asked Bishop Otis Charles, a retired Episcopalian prelate, to lead the November 30 service. After serving as the Bishop of Utah from 1971 to 1993, he publicly announced that he is homosexual. Divorced from the mother of his 5 children, he solemnized a same-sex union in 2004.

I’m not going to try to convince you to believe anything. I believe that anything other than what the Apostles wrote becomes suspect. Certainly given the Apostles never once mention Mary after the Ascension of Christ is very telling. The entire Mariology myth is built on speculation and hearsay and not on scripture. If that is the religion you want you have made your choice and will have to answer for that.

I think the firm position is that history stopped after the Book Of Acts.

I.e., there was no final result of the trial of Paul, the Apostles froze in place, the Church went dormant, etc.

Until somewhere around the 16th Century when history started up again...

Amen, Judith Anne.

Just came from a wonderful Mass in honor of her Immaculate Conception.

Oh Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

LOL, gibberish and rubbish.

Good try though.

God gave to us and preserved His word through the Church.

Just because men reject or leave His Church, don’t think that He has.

Protestants are never offended about the Mary the scriptures speak of. You greatly error to imply we do anything other than honor her for her humble submission to our Father's will. She was the chosen vessel to bring our savior into this world and We as Christians celebrate HIS arrival above all else.

What we do Not do is make an idol of her...pray to her...bow down to her...or call her equal to the savior in any way shape or form. Nor do we call her "the Holy Mother Of God'... as if God needed a mother.

Further, we do Not set aside celebrations adoring her, or build idols of her of all manner of mans imaginations and then adorning her in all manner of dress and attire to march thru parades as the pagans did. That we do not do nor should we.

I thank God that he showed me that catholic rituals so often oppose what Jesus himself said we are not to do. ..no images nor idols, nor are we to bow before them or pray to them...let alone make them so that people make idols of them.

You are wrong in your accusations against protestants...and as much in your ritual and practice of elevating Mary above that of our Savior. In doing so you have dethroned Christ's rightful place as central to the body of Christ.

God gave to us and preserved His word through the Church.

No, God gave us His word thru His son Jesus Christ.

"In the beginning was the Word... and the Word was with God and the Word was God in the beginning"....."The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us." John 1

(Protestants).. They are deeply offended by the submission that Mary showed.

Not at all, we understand clearly her humble heart before our Father's will. What is offensive is when people make her an idol and worship her images made by mens hands...and with those same imaginations pray to her.. when Jesus himself has stated He alone is the only mediator between man and God...and that we are not to make graven images to worship and adorn as the heathen do. That's what's offensive.

Behind every deficient Mariology is a deficient Christology.

When you define yourself not in terms of what you are, but in terms of what you are not, then all kinds of silly possibilities can be developed.

Is not that the same reasoning as when one believes what's 'not written' rather than adhere to what "is written".

Behind every deficient Mariology is a deficient Christology.

All in the eyes of the beholder I would confidently say.

God sees us thru the life of His son...not Mary...it is His blood shed for us,.. not Mary's.....We do not need to worsip Mary via "Mariology"....when we have "Christ-ianity" as our faith and the centrality of Christ as our foundation. 'He is the Rock' to stand on...all else is sinking sand.

They “ask for her blessing”? So they push Christ aside and ask Mary? I call that blasphemy.

Denying that Mary bore God in her womb is shear Nestorianism. The Council of Ephesus infallibly defined in 431 A.D. that: And since the holy Virgin brought forth corporally God made one with flesh according to nature, for this reason we also call her Mother of God, not as if the nature of the Word had the beginning of its existence from the flesh. If anyone will not confess that the Emmanuel is very God, and that therefore the Holy Virgin is the Mother of God (Θεοτόκος), inasmuch as in the flesh she bore the Word of God made flesh [as it is written, The Word was made flesh] let him be anathema. Nestorius: If anyone says that the Emmanuel is true God, and not rather God with us, that is, that he has united himself to a like nature with ours, which he assumed from the Virgin Mary, and dwelt in it; and if anyone calls Mary the mother of God the Word, and not rather mother of him who is Emmanuel; and if he maintains that God the Word has changed himself into the flesh, which he only assumed in order to make his Godhead visible, and to be found in form as a man, let him be anathema.

All in the eyes of the beholder I would confidently say.

If the beholder is competently taught Christian Orthodoxy, s/he will see that the statement: "as if God needed a mother" reveals mushy nonsensical understanding of the Most Holy Trinity.

The other statements merely compound the nonsense.

****Yup, anyone can claim that they have taught CCD. They can claim that they know the catechism.****

And they get all offended when we say they have been poorly catechized. LOL

Think of the damage they have done to those who were assigned to their class.

Oh man, it’s enough to make one’s head explode.

I sometimes wish some of the poster’s theology rose to the level of Nestorius, but I don’t think it does.

One would have to think through his or her theology more than we see from these mere knee-jerks to the mention of the Mother of God.

You already showed that your assumptions regarding the Bible are rooted in William of Ockham’s philosophy when you said the Catholic idea for getting saved was too complicated.

Philosophy always precedes theology, even for Fundamentalist Protestants.

I believe it would be fair saying some spend more time before and about Mary then they do Jesus. ....and of course it's a diversion to keep them from being with Him. They're deeply indoctrinated into believing IN her in many ways over and above Christ himself...of which much of their literature, prayers and such attest to at length....and beyond nauseating....and as you have fairly stated...blasphemous.

However when one is 'deceived' in a few things one will 'accept' many other things equally deceptive because the veil of darkness has already blinded their eyes to see otherwise,..... (the light that is in Christ Jesus Alone where we "fix" our eyes on Him just as it is written).........then there's the natural following of the blind leading the blind... who cannot "see" they walk in darkness.
