A notoriously 'gay-friendly' parish in San Francisco has invited an openly homosexual Episcopalian cleric to lead an Advent Vespers service.
Most Holy Redeemer parish asked Bishop Otis Charles, a retired Episcopalian prelate, to lead the November 30 service. After serving as the Bishop of Utah from 1971 to 1993, he publicly announced that he is homosexual. Divorced from the mother of his 5 children, he solemnized a same-sex union in 2004.
When you attend the Church of Joe and Mike (until their divorce and then Joe gets the church and Mike gets the house), which set up shop last month, what use have you of 2000 years?
The vast majority of what is posted around here by anti-Catholics doesn't even make it all the way back to Luther or Wycliffe, just to America in the early part of the nineteenth century. Of course, everything over twenty minutes old is tradition and so the infallible are free to ignore it anyway. The mention of anything say, thirty minutes old, is just a ploy to make it look like there's something more substantial than their own reflection in the mirror to the personal religion of Self each of the infallible practices.

Mark, I notice that you included this quote from metmom’s post. I’m going to comment here that EVER SINCE I mentioned working in my church’s lunch program with a group of ladies who all contribute, metmom and her group have all made it a matter of ridicule to feed the hungry, mocking soup kitchens, claiming that Catholics use deeds as a get out of hell free card, etc.
Smvoice is another who seems to think that following Christ’s clear scriptural direction to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit those in prison and heal the sick is somehow trying to “earn” salvation. This is so false. Those of us who love the Lord listen to His word, and do what we can for Him, as He said, “Inasmuch as ye do it unto one of the least of these, ye have done it unto me.”
It seems to be a matter of pride for the harpies that they have done NOTHING, for fear of looking as though they might be trying to earn salvation (which no one can do), rather than in gratitude and love for the Savior who gave up everything, they can’t even ladle a bowl of soup and must ridicule those who serve in obedience to His will.
What a horrid, horrid place for children to be subjected to the indoctrination of submission.
>>But since We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty<<
The God of this world you say! My, oh my!
Then came the REAL Jesus!
Galatians 5:1 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
What an enlightening post metmom! If that isnt a cult there are no cults.
Thats the truth of scripture. Can you find anywhere in scripture where someone is saved simply by belonging to a group or is it a personal decision which causes someone to be saved and then becoming part of the body of Christ?
An excellent post.
I have often thought what you have so well expressed.
Not only is it false, but to translate it into protestantese, it is directly contradicted by the plain language of scripture in Matthew 25:31-46.
Jesus does not say that, when the Son of Man comes in his glory, that he will ask, "OK, who here has accepted Me as Savior?" It does not say, "OK, which one of you came forward at an altar call?" It does not say, "Glad to see all of you who made a decision for Me at a young age - the rest of you Catholics who fed me when I was hungry, clothed me when I was naked, and visited me in prison, go away to eternal punishment".
The whole thread has become absurd.
Is anyone still discussing the imprudence of a Catholic pastor allowing the heretic Otis Charles to preach in a Catholic church?
Revelations 17:18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
Revelation 18:1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
Thanks. All these threads quickly become absurd, anti-Catholic screeds. I don’t know why there are any Catholics left on the forum, including me.

>>>>that in obeying your confessor you obey God<<
What is the source for that comment? The links metmom gave in 2475 were not all accurate. The one for the Baltimore Catechism didn’t work at all.
I'd hazard a guess that all the people in the Gospels who were told they were saved or healed by their faith did not understand fully the Incarnation, the deity of Christ.
Even his own disciples didn't get much. They certainly didn't understand that he was going to die for them.
God straightened out their theology AFTER they were saved and given the Holy Spirit. Matter of fact, the only way to have correct theology is through the enlightening of the Holy Spirit dwelling in you.
Yes, correcting my theology is God's department.
John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
Give it a rest. Anyone who hasn’t memorized Revelations 18 and made known their agreement or disagreement with your swill has no brain.
>>>>Matter of fact, the only way to have correct theology is through the enlightening of the Holy Spirit dwelling in you.
Good luck with that. I’ll pray you get it.
I did not desert the *Faith*. I found faith and left legalism in the form of Catholicism for freedom in Christ.
I attend church because the Scriptural command is to not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, not because it's a sin to miss church.
Read 2 Thessalonians 2:14 and 3:6.
Don’t play innocent. Your posts haven’t exactly been such, evidenced by your incessant accusation of idolatry on the part of Catholics and Orthodox Christians.
I sincerely doubt that you understood Catholicism when you were a Catholic, and you certainly haven’t demonstrated it here.
All I see are misunderstandings, red herrings, and distortions.
Read the book of Leviticus.
>>>>I attend church because the Scriptural command is to not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, not because it’s a sin to miss church.
Is it a scriptural command to ridicule those who feed the hungry? To mock them? To claim their love of Christ is merely trying to buy their way out of purgatory? Do your scriptures tell your church to do that?
2 Timothy 3 14But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
1 Corinthians 2:10-16 10these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. 11For who knows a persons thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. 13And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
14The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 15The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. 16 "For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.
I am in Christ. I was placed there by the Holy Spirit when I accepted Christ. In Him I live and move and have my being. I have the mind of Christ and the Holy Spirit enlightens me to the meaning of Scripture.
It's available for anyone who wants it. It can be yours as well. God is no respecter of persons.
