On paper, maybe. The election of Obama should make everyone realize its probably only on paper these days.
Think we have free elections? Go try to run for major office, either party, and see how far you get.
Unless you're one of the GOP or Dem anointed, and you have major money behind you, you will not likely get far.
There are occasional exceptions to this, like Sarah in Alaska, but they are only rare exceptions.
The election of 0bama as a President in our Republic Constitutional system reiterates that we are a Republic. Perhaps not a very wise one circa 2008 - but that is not the argument you are trying to make.
For us to be a Democracy we would have to get rid of the Executive branch entirely and depend upon a Legislature to shape laws that the entire American electorate would then vote up or down.
Amazing to me that you Anti-American boot lickers of Monarchy cannot even make a cogent argument against a Republic without falling back on arguments against Democracy.
Even a Democracy, as abhorrent as it is, would be better than being under the absolute rule of one man via hereditary power.
It is a delusion. An anti-American delusion. Nothing will ever come of it. There will never be a Catholic King of America. Thank GOD!
