Praying for the dead is a waste of time. It is the living that need our prayers.

I just noticed it quotes Maccabees.

That may explain their position.

Why would it be a “waste of time” to pray that someone who has committed suicide does not go to Hell?

“Praying for the dead is a waste of time”.

For kicks and grins... then why do we have Christian funerals? Why would a minister preside over one and say prayers? Is it only for the living or what? (I seriously don’t know the answer since I’m Catholic. We do say prayers for the deceased but I didn’t know other Christian religions found this odd)
