Thank you for trying to interpret the prophet for us poor Mormons, but you should read the actual talk that quote came from. I heard the talk and read it afterwards. I understood what he was talking about and what he meant. The “Biblical” Jesus and the “LDS” Jesus are one and the same and President Hinckly agreed.
The Mormon Jesus and the Biblical Jesus can be easily contrasted as follows:
1. Mormon Jesus is not the only god - Biblical Jesus is the only God and part of the Triune Godhead.
2. Mormon Jesus was not always a god - Biblical Jesus is and was always God
3. Mormon Jesus is the spirit brother of Lucifer - Biblical Jesus is the Creator and created everything including Lucifer
4. Mormon Jesus saves upon faith and obdeience to laws and ordinances - Biblical Jesus saves upon faith through grace and not of works

Wrong again, due to mormon filtration of words. Never in the article does hinkley state "biblical" Jesus. He is careful to state the Jesus of the "Dispensation of the Fullness of Times" as revealed to smith. No where is the bible mentioned.
It is clear from the context that when hinkley refers to the "traditional" Jesus, he is referring to the Biblical Jesus of Christianity - ie all non-mormons (whom THEY speak).
If it wasn't clear enough orem, the article makes it further clear "those outside the Church" - who orem, buddists?
Poor mormons indeed when your prophet is so grossly misstated and misrepresented as in your reply orem. The statement is very clear for those who can read.
Lets take this one step further orem. You call yourself a "fellow believer", yet Hinkley made it clear that the mormon jesus was different from the Jesus of Christianity - again refering to those outside of the mormon church. Since by the word of your prophet we have a different Jesus, then we do not share a common faith in Jesus and therefore you and your fellow mormons are not 'fellow believers' by any stretch of the imagination.
Are you capable of defining this Jesus that is in common between mormonism and Jesus?
Are the ontologies the same
Is the salvation provided the same
Is the atonement the same
Are the natures the same
Just some hints for you orem. You want to play the ‘fellow believer’ card - I’m calling you on it. Show me where your Jesus is the same as mine.
You now, in all the years I’ve studied Mormon history and theology, there’s one very simple yet fundamental question that’s never occured to me until now (insert Homer Simpson moment here). I would genuinely like to hear the response of an LDS member to the following:
I know that many “plain and precious things” are believed by LDS to have been lost from the Bible prior to the establishment of your church. Since D&C/Pearl of Great Price are regarded as new revelations and/or supplemental historical material, then what “plain and precious things” were restored within the Book of Mormon if it does contain the “fullness of the gospel”?
