Yes, that’s the post I was referring to. You acknowledge that you like to deceive in order to amuse yourself. Apparently you see this as a distinguishing characteristic of being a grizzled internet veteran. But as another internet veteran of my acquaintance used to say, integrity is the sole currency of the internet and when you’ve shown others that your words aren’t to be trusted then you’re bankrupt.
Of course I’ve run into people who do something like this in real life but it’s less common when they’re not anonymous. One coworker of mine would invent a story when the truth would serve him much better. It was an odd compulsion in his case, I don’t think he could help himself. Others haven’t got an excuse.
