Minneapolis, Minnesota (CNN) Prior to 2006, few people even knew that then-Minnesota state legislator Keith Ellison was a Muslim. Because of his English name, he said, no one thought to ask.
But five years ago, when he ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives - a race he would go on to win - word of his religious affiliation began to spread.
When I started running for Congress it actually took me by surprise that so many people were fascinated with me being the first Muslim in Congress, said Ellison, a Democrat now serving his third term in the House.
But someone said to me, Look Keith, think of a person of Japanese origin running for Congress six years after Pearl Harborthis might be a news story.
Though Ellison's status as the first Muslim elected to Congress is widely known, fewer are aware that he was born into a Catholic family in Detroit and was brought up attending Catholic schools.
But he said he was never comfortable with that faith.
I just felt it was ritual and dogma, Ellison said. Of course, thats not the reality of Catholicism, but its the reality I lived. So I just kind of lost interest and stopped going to Mass unless I was required to.
It wasnt until he was a student at Wayne State University in Detroit when Ellison began, looking for other things.

And that is why this particular Youtube video is so powerful.

Again sweet and lovely,
shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
but not supported by the Holy WORD of Elohim.
Mat 18:18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Mat 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Before you guys can come close to understanding verse 18:18 you have to get a grasp on verse 16:19...And I don't forsee that in the near future...
Can you give any evidence where verse 18:19 has never failed in your religion???
Of course you can't...And since you can't you're lost when it comes to binding and loosing...
Is it possible to remain a catholic and not believe this teaching? I am just asking. What happens if I do not believe it?
Hmmmm...Catholics and muzlims are Christians but Pentecostals are not...All I can say is 'God save me from your religion'...
Hey, you’re all over the scriptures...Just picking and choosing verses to create a story???
I have wondered also if there were children before the fall.
Also, did God create other humans after creating Adam and Eve.
The Bible doesn’t say, but then we have Adam and Eve’s children who are men so with whom did they have children?
These questions came to me because of athiests and such have hinted there must have been incest of Adam and Eve and their children in the population of the world.
They are disputing how we could all descend from just two humans when they say these things.
BTW I'm a girl, but I ain't scared either. I say bring 'em on, too.
To judge by the Religion Forum on FR, attacking what one opponent actually says and thinks is very difficult, so difficult that few attempt it.
It would not be right to do so. It is taught with the highest level of moxie authority. TO beomce a Catholic one would have to make a declaration of conformity, and to do what a Catholic is supposed to do is to assent to what is clearly 'declared and defined.'
As to what would happen, I don't know. If you taught something else, you might get in trouble and have your Catholic teaching credentials pulled.
St.Thomas Aquinas did not believe it and argued against it. However, it was not defined at the time. So it was an open question.
It wason the basis of his arguments, subsequent learning about conception, and the arguments of others, especially as to the relationship between Christ's saving act and time, that the conclusion was reached and promulgated.
This doctrine regarding Mary is binding.
One must accept it as Truth to be in communion with the Church.
So technically, one could not believe it and be Catholic, but one would be a Catholic not in full communion with the Church and therefore, could not receive the Sacraments.
Protestants fall into this category.
Can you direct me to the post where a Catholic said Muslims are Christians? I would like to argue against it.
I guess I always thought both Adam and Eve had a hand in the Fall.
That is how one who disagrees might see it.
I see it as being fully supported in Scripture by the passages I mentioned previously and others.
The Trinity is never named or defined in Scripture, yet it can be found by things that are there.
It is the same thing and again, we can disagree without rancor as you have done with me. I appreciate that.
Ahem, that is the FReeper daniel1212.
I see what the confusion was.
Interesting, Thank you for your answers. Now, If I attend a mass, which I have done on occasion, and I take communion which I have also done in faith through my Lutheran understanding of it what happens? The Roman Catholic churches I attended had no warning or teaching about who can take communion?
Of course you mean 'your' church'...
Matthew 10: 1* Then he summoned his twelve disciples* and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out and to cure every disease and every illness.
Do all of your popes drive out unclean spirits and cure every disease and illness???
NO?
5b Jesus sent out these twelve* after instructing them thus, Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town.
What are you doing here on a public forum in 'pagan territory'???
Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
How did you get into your church??? Are you Jewish??? Were you one of the lost sheep??? What made you a sheep before you became lost???
7As you go, make this proclamation: The kingdom of heaven is at hand.d
So your religion is the kingdom of heaven??? You Catholics own Lions and Cobras that your kids play with and keep as pets??? And your little cats snuggle up with the canaries???
8* Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons
Are all you relatives still alive, or alive again??? They living with you or what???
Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give. 9e Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts;
And how many hundreds of billions does your Catholic church own in gold alone???
Whatever town or village you enter, look for a worthy person in it, and stay there until you leave.
Quite an odd thing...Jesus himself preached to the 'unworthy'...
Jesus gave teaching authority to the Church, and not to every Tom, Dick and Luther at their own whims.
According to what you posted here as proof??? Why didn't you post 1 Chronicles chapter 1-6??? There's just as much evidence there that yours is the church that Jesus founded...
But the funniest thing is that you condemn a belief and then post the scripture that proves and justifies that belief and call it the defense of your position...WoW...
I see it as being fully supported in Scripture by the passages I mentioned previously and others.
The Trinity is never named or defined in Scripture, yet it can be found by things that are there.

If she had not accepted, YHvH would have Three gods or ONE YHvH that is important. Serving YHvH as he has commanded that is important. Choosing between man-made traditionMary is not in my path to salvation,
shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
so she is of little consequence to me.
found another Jewish maiden
or the Holy WORD
that is important.
