Minneapolis, Minnesota (CNN) Prior to 2006, few people even knew that then-Minnesota state legislator Keith Ellison was a Muslim. Because of his English name, he said, no one thought to ask.
But five years ago, when he ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives - a race he would go on to win - word of his religious affiliation began to spread.
When I started running for Congress it actually took me by surprise that so many people were fascinated with me being the first Muslim in Congress, said Ellison, a Democrat now serving his third term in the House.
But someone said to me, Look Keith, think of a person of Japanese origin running for Congress six years after Pearl Harborthis might be a news story.
Though Ellison's status as the first Muslim elected to Congress is widely known, fewer are aware that he was born into a Catholic family in Detroit and was brought up attending Catholic schools.
But he said he was never comfortable with that faith.
I just felt it was ritual and dogma, Ellison said. Of course, thats not the reality of Catholicism, but its the reality I lived. So I just kind of lost interest and stopped going to Mass unless I was required to.
It wasnt until he was a student at Wayne State University in Detroit when Ellison began, looking for other things.

Where have you been? Hebrews 13.
"If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is GIVEN ME to you-ward: how that BY REVELATION He MADE KNOWN UNTO ME, the mystery..." Eph. 3:2,3,5,6,9.
We know Paul wasn't saved until Acts Chapter 9, so the Dispensation of Grace could NOT have started before then. What dispensation was before the dispensation of Grace? The dispensation of the Law.
Otherwise the conversation is going well. :0)
Dispensatrionalism is a man made 19th century construct that has even less merit than the 16th century constructs of the Reformation. It is a credible as Tarot cards.
You dont believe what scripture says?
1 John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal lifethat believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one" (John 10: 27-30).
Romans 10:13. Let us also be secure in knowing that "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved"
Its been decided and is assured. To state otherwise is to deny the very words of Jesus.
>>You might have a strange attraction to menstrual pads<<
Do you really need to use pejoratives? Ive noticed you do that rather often. Is it because you are insecure in your positions and feel the need to attempt to demean the person you are speaking to? It doesnt work. IMO it demeans you and the positions you take.

Twice in one post! How juvenile.
NOW I know why the protestants cast Mary aside. They do it for Paul, author of the "Dispensation of Grace." >p>PS, where does Paul say that the "Dispensation of Grace starts with him? Or where does ANY scripture say that? Because that sounds like you're substituting a crazed, afflicted celibate male for the Bles sed Virgin Mother of God. And you say Catholics monkey with Scripture! Another thing: The dispensation of Grace could NOT have started before Acts 9? That's just flat out offensive to God. What can you be thinking? I have to believe that God will hold the author of THAT statement accountable.
64 A.D. Yep, that's pretty close to the 19th century....
Tradition only explains, clarifies, and augments Scripture, filling in the blanks and connecting the dots. It resolves apparent conflicts. It never contradicts Scripture, ever.
Look, I don't mind answering questions, but if you're just going to ignore the answers and Scriptures I'm giving you, then we are both just wasting our time. If you ask a question, I give you a Scripture, and you ask the question again, then that tells me you haven't read the Scripture I gave you. That's not studying the Bible. That's just arguing for argument's sake.
Silly man...The judge has already made the decision for Christians...I only acknowledge it...
Joh 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
Joh 10:15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
Joh 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
Joh 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Joh 10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
Joh 10:30 I and my Father are one.
Joh 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
If you are one of the sheep, you have eternal life right now...
Those who wait to see if their works were good enough to get them to heaven are not one of the sheep and will find out that their works could never have been good enough...They will be cast into outer darkness...
Jesus died for that very reason...Because your works will never be good enough...
Thank you for pointing out the flaws of YOPIS. Those versus do not affirm the Dispensational ages you allege.
The Dispensation of the grace of God was given to Paul? I don’t think so. The Dispensation of the Grace of God was given to Christ, not Paul, and I see nothing in that Chapter that says otherwise, unless you are playing a translation game here. If you are quibbling translations, then you might as well pick up the magesterium, it will be more accurate.
Seeing that there is barely ANYTHING in Scripture to substantiate the RCCs teachings and doctrines, I would have to say that you are right. The RCC does not contradict Scripture, it doesn't USE IT AT ALL. With the exception of people's names, nothing else even resembles Scripture.
Given human nature - usually there are strings attached.
This is a straw man argument though.
The cross is a free and unconditional gift - Thank you Lord.
No one is saying the gift doesn’t exist.
Because we have intellect/ free will / reason / we could fail.
All of these questions about earning the gift have already occurred on good Friday by Our Lord.
But I wasnt addressing RnMomof7 nor do I need to compare the level of whatever. If a poster uses a pejoratives in a post to me attempting to somehow either demoralize or for whatever reason Im not likely to end it with a comment like but it wasnt as bad as so and so to somehow indicate that if its not as bad it must be ok.
I identified independent source material to legitimize my 30000+ contention (Pub 78,F990 and attendant analysis) all available under FOIA but you are unable or unwilling to refute said documents.
The Burden of Proof shifted to you and you were unable to counter my assertions of at least 30000 discrete entities
Case closed. the 30000 + plus remains.
You are hoisting yourself on your own petard in regard to Scripture.
Hey, Judith Anne. God said it, not me. It’s God’s word. Take it up with Him, if you don’t want to read His word as He inspired men to write it down.
