Minneapolis, Minnesota (CNN) Prior to 2006, few people even knew that then-Minnesota state legislator Keith Ellison was a Muslim. Because of his English name, he said, no one thought to ask.
But five years ago, when he ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives - a race he would go on to win - word of his religious affiliation began to spread.
When I started running for Congress it actually took me by surprise that so many people were fascinated with me being the first Muslim in Congress, said Ellison, a Democrat now serving his third term in the House.
But someone said to me, Look Keith, think of a person of Japanese origin running for Congress six years after Pearl Harborthis might be a news story.
Though Ellison's status as the first Muslim elected to Congress is widely known, fewer are aware that he was born into a Catholic family in Detroit and was brought up attending Catholic schools.
But he said he was never comfortable with that faith.
I just felt it was ritual and dogma, Ellison said. Of course, thats not the reality of Catholicism, but its the reality I lived. So I just kind of lost interest and stopped going to Mass unless I was required to.
It wasnt until he was a student at Wayne State University in Detroit when Ellison began, looking for other things.

You mean he didn't?
I know he was only an uneducated Newfie but I'm certain he thought it was the Priest who changed the bread and wine into the flesh and blood of Jesus.
I'd waffle a tad on that.
I'm afraid you have a big job on your hands educating 100's of millions of "uneducated" Catholics, including Priests.
Agreed. I've got several of them in diocese on the run who don't really like to talk to me during diocesan meetings. There is one who teaches at the local Catholic University and wears Converse sneakers, and is as liberal as a barrel full of Congress.
BTW Have you ever found the scriptural proof of the assumption of Mary?
Oooh, so we have one antiCatholic that preaches that Jesus does not fulfill Jewish customs, allied with another who preaches that Jesus fulfills Jewish customs.
Nothing matters except antiCatholic hate, doesn't it?
Hey, keep that picture. When there are lots of people missing one day pull it up and look at it and convince yourself thats what it was.
Having certitude does not preclude debate. Certitude ,or as your previous post mentioned reasonable certitude, or even absolute certitude all have different meanings . Thus to make a statement regarding certitude one must first provide a precise definition of said term. You did not define a precise definition at the outset.
Since the Canon remained the same from Cathage/Hippo until today, save for Luther, how valid and forceful was this debate.
Trent merely rubber stamped what had been done 1100 years before.
Believe what you want, end of discussion . God bless and Good night.
Thats Churchianity not Christianity. If you understand the difference you begin to understand them.
Better stated than my effort, sir.
Suffice it to say we will not be swayed in our beliefs by poorly articulated Reformationist "discoveries" so stop trying.
They must. They are "Protest"ant. If their protest against the Faith stops, they have nothing left.
From generation to generation is from father to son. You are wrong about this just as much as you are wrong about the Faith.
I'll give you a hint...You have to start reading the scriptures outside of the Gospels to find it...Yes, there are scriptures after the book of Luke...
Enlighten me. If you can.
This is really interesting. Do tell me more about how the children of the Reformation have strayed further and further from the Faith.
"But Now". The dispensation of the grace of God. The Body of Christ, the Gospel of Grace, the temporary setting aside of Israel, Jew and Gentile on equal standing before God, the one Baptism, the preaching of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, BUT NOW is made manifest.." (Rom. 16:25,26). and a commission we can fulfill: 2 Cor 5:14-20; Eph. 3:1-9.
And the all important "In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to MY GOSPEL". (Paul's gospel) Rom. 2:16.
Wow, just wow. No Jesus, just Paul. It is what we keep saying you guys do, and you guys keep denying it.
Go back to Christ and only view Paul through the Gospels. That is Christianity. The opposite is Paulianity or even worse, Paulicianism. That way lies madness.
How many generations between Adam and Jesus? Youre not scared of that question are you?
Don't really care to look it up right now. How about you tell me?
Wait, werent you the guys who burned people at the stake if they didnt agree with the RCC? Id rather someone run around naked then burn someone at the stake.
Well, stop posting it then.
The Roman Emperor Constantine, moved the seat of the Roman Empire from Rome to Constantinople just prior to the council of Nicaea.
How could it be a Roman Empire if it was based in Turkey?
Please re-read the post to see that Constantine issued the proclamation for promulgation to the world condemning the WORD of Elohim replacing it with Babylonian Paganism e.g. Easter.
Actually no, he didn't. Reread the quotation you have posted numerous times and seemingly don't understand at all.
A gracious reply, thank you.
Nah, go back and read the exchange I had with your buddy. He already admitted that the RCC did in fact not allow people to read anything they didnt ok.
I'm not aware of which buddy or which post you mean. Do you have the post number?
I don’t think it will ever be found. First of all, there are no red letter words to search for. Secondly, it’s so far from the 4 Gospels and Acts 1 and 2 that it might get boring. You know, no pictures or recipes to cook in honor of searching the Scriptures. I wonder if there is a saint for that?
I don't teach anymore, but I still have dreams I'm back in the classroom. I miss it.
The tagline has been my favorite for forever - I used to have a small plaque with the saying on it. I have used it off and on - mostly on - for a few years now. I NEED to read it regularly.
I suspect that the average IQ will substantially increase. And certain family trees which do not branch will be eliminated. On the whole, not a bad thing.
How many generations between Adam and Jesus?
What scripture supports the bodily assumption of Mary?
I've noticed. Are you going to send photos too?
