My Faith: Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), from Catholic to Muslim
CNN ^ | 9/1/11 | Chris Welch

Posted on 09/02/2011 9:07:47 AM PDT by marshmallow

Minneapolis, Minnesota (CNN) –Prior to 2006, few people even knew that then-Minnesota state legislator Keith Ellison was a Muslim. Because of his English name, he said, no one thought to ask.

But five years ago, when he ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives - a race he would go on to win - word of his religious affiliation began to spread.

“When I started running for Congress it actually took me by surprise that so many people were fascinated with me being the first Muslim in Congress,” said Ellison, a Democrat now serving his third term in the House.

“But someone said to me, ‘Look Keith, think of a person of Japanese origin running for Congress six years after Pearl Harbor–this might be a news story.’”

Though Ellison's status as the first Muslim elected to Congress is widely known, fewer are aware that he was born into a Catholic family in Detroit and was brought up attending Catholic schools.

But he said he was never comfortable with that faith.

“I just felt it was ritual and dogma,” Ellison said. “Of course, that’s not the reality of Catholicism, but it’s the reality I lived. So I just kind of lost interest and stopped going to Mass unless I was required to.”

It wasn’t until he was a student at Wayne State University in Detroit when Ellison began, “looking for other things.”

Where does it say that Paul spent three years in the presence of the risen Christ?

I'll give you a hint...You have to start reading the scriptures outside of the Gospels to find it...Yes, there are scriptures after the book of Luke...

Don't confuse smart with educated...They are not necessarily the same...

With some individuals, they roughly equate.

There are three ways the word generation is used in scripture. 1. It can be used to denote a physical family generation. 2. It can be used to denote the spiritual family or generation of evil. 3. And it can be used to denote the spiritual family or generation of Christ.

Bring on the evidence. A generation is the span of time between parents and offspring. In the shorter lifespan of those in Biblical times, that was 20-25 years. With our greater lifespan, that has increased to 25-30 years.

Give it up. Your twists and turns are interesting, but there are only so many knots you can make.

>>He explicitly warned that those who preach such a restrictive, localized, secret return were no agents of his.<<

Except that He doesn’t “return” to earth at the rapture. We leave to meet Him in the air.

Replacement theology began at Nicea in 325CE when the Roman Pontiff, Constantine blamed the Jews for the death of Yah'shua.

You fail yet again. Your 'Roman Pontiff' was based in Turkey. And he did not create anything except a proclamation in which he bowed to Church decisions. You keep posting this, when the words prove your conclusions wrong and you keep posting it and keep getting it wrong.

By the way, Judaizing was declared wrong in Acts and in the works of Paul. Why do you keep ignoring that if you profess Biblical adherence?

The Great Commission. The Kingdom Gospel. "Time Past". Eph. 2:11,12. Consists of the OT, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and the first part of Acts. Acts 1 summarizes Luke 24. Given to Peter and the 11 by Jesus Christ. Beginning at Jerusalem, then to the world. Which never happened, because Israel rejected the message. See Acts 28 for more information.

"Ages to Come". Eph. 2:7. Given to Israel to be a kingdom of priests and a blessing to all nations. Begins with tribulation, those who endure to the end will be saved, and ends with second coming of Christ to set up His Kingdom on Earth. See Hebrews through Revelation for more information on the Ages to Come.

"But Now". The dispensation of the grace of God. The Body of Christ, the Gospel of Grace, the temporary setting aside of Israel, Jew and Gentile on equal standing before God, the one Baptism, the preaching of Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, BUT NOW is made manifest.." (Rom. 16:25,26). and a commission we can fulfill: 2 Cor 5:14-20; Eph. 3:1-9.

And the all important "In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to MY GOSPEL". (Paul's gospel) Rom. 2:16.

Uri'el>BuuuZZZZ you fail !

Hardly. The Catholic Church does not allow Funk & Wagnals or some comic book publication to redefine the lexicon for the amusement and satisfaction of anti-Catholics.

What a bunch of ....................

Never mind !

Speaking in gnostic gibberish.

Bronx2, to be blunt, you cannot have this certitude in Rome if something is still a matter of debate, which the canon was, without those that did dissent being disallowed at Trent or disciplined at all. This was because it yet lacked infallible definition, as substantiated, and which is what disallows any dissent, and your attempt to defend yourself is simply another attempt at sophisticated sophistry in lieu of a real argument, which in quality and quantity was presented to you.

If you disagree that Trent provided the first infallible definition and which precludes further dissent, then you can argue with those of your own who state this.

My friend, remember that Iscool was the one who told us that he doesn't believe what he believes. I guess anything goes in that case...

I see you had another busy night last night...Was that at home or at your religious gathering???

Sorry to disappoint, Iscool, but we are not the ones who prance naked around Stonehenge under the harvest moon. Will you be taking photos this year?

The Catholic Church already tried chaining the Bible to the pulpit by denying it to the people. They lost that battle so now attempt to keep the understanding from the people through double speak, obfuscation, and supposed mysteries.

More comic book wisdom. The first book that Gutenberg printed was the Catholic Bible. Do you have any more?

Thanks for making me out to be a liar.

When you accuse an industrious man of laziness he will either dismiss you or laugh heartily. When you accuse a lazy man of laziness, he will inevitably take umbrage.

It merely adds to my Heavenly account of blessings.

Oh, I'm sure that this phony Internet claim will be on your Heavenly account.

>>Give it up. Your twists and turns are interesting, but there are only so many knots you can make.<<

How about we just go to scripture.

• When looking at that use of the word generation we have an example in Deuteronomy as it pertains to those who were not allowed to enter the Promised Land. Deuteronomy 2:14 And the space in which we came from Kadeshbarnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the LORD sware unto them.

It took 38 years for the generation of those men of war to die off. Notice they were “men of war” prior to those 38 years. They had not just been born when Moses lead them into the wilderness.

Then look at Numbers 14 to see how old those “men of war” were when they entered the wilderness.

Numbers 14:29 Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against me.

So we see that those men were at least 20 years old when the entered the wilderness and it took another 38 years for that generation to be gone. So the length of that generation was at least 58 years. Looks to me like God looks at a generation different then you do. You know what? I’m going with God’s definition in that case.

BTW You keep asking questions and making sport but you never answered mine. How many generations between Adam and Jesus? You’re not scared of that question are you?

More Blazing Ignorance

The Roman Emperor Constantine,
moved the seat of the Roman Empire
from Rome to Constantinople just prior
to the council of Nicaea.

The Roman Pontiff Constantine called
and managed the council at Nicaea.

Nicaea is a suburb of Constantinople.

Please re-read the post to see that Constantine
issued the proclamation for promulgation
to the world condemning the WORD of Elohim
replacing it with Babylonian Paganism e.g. Easter.

Seek the face of YHvH in His WORD.

Nah, go back and read the exchange I had with your buddy. He already admitted that the RCC did in fact not allow people to read anything they didn’t ok.
