Minneapolis, Minnesota (CNN) Prior to 2006, few people even knew that then-Minnesota state legislator Keith Ellison was a Muslim. Because of his English name, he said, no one thought to ask.
But five years ago, when he ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives - a race he would go on to win - word of his religious affiliation began to spread.
When I started running for Congress it actually took me by surprise that so many people were fascinated with me being the first Muslim in Congress, said Ellison, a Democrat now serving his third term in the House.
But someone said to me, Look Keith, think of a person of Japanese origin running for Congress six years after Pearl Harborthis might be a news story.
Though Ellison's status as the first Muslim elected to Congress is widely known, fewer are aware that he was born into a Catholic family in Detroit and was brought up attending Catholic schools.
But he said he was never comfortable with that faith.
I just felt it was ritual and dogma, Ellison said. Of course, thats not the reality of Catholicism, but its the reality I lived. So I just kind of lost interest and stopped going to Mass unless I was required to.
It wasnt until he was a student at Wayne State University in Detroit when Ellison began, looking for other things.

“”What utter blasphemy !””
NO IT’S NOT!
A good friend of mine pointed out a good analysis by Fr. Peter Fehlner.
http://airmaria.com/events/FatimaCoRdmpt-2007/OpeningAddress.asp
Fr. Peter Fehlner states
“The first error has been circulating for centuries in the West and may be summarized with a certain degree of accuracy under the shiboleth: Christus solus . There is only one Mediator (I Tim 2: 5) and any attempt to link anyone else with Him as Mediator is an attack on a genuine notion of expiation for sin and reconciliation with God. In its extreme form it is met in the old Calvinism, still very much alive, but in disguise, as liberation theology (Marxism, patripassianism, etc). The give away is some form of metaphysical dualism attributing to the redeemed such corruption as to be unable to function salvifically. Only God in suffering can redeem, and this by substituting himself in our place and enduring what we could neither endure physically or accomplish ethically. The Christus solus theory to be consistent must reject any form of vicarious satisfaction by a man who merits or satisfies for others de condigno as mere legalism, and hence who can make it possible for others to be associated with Him in this work, above all uniquely one who is Immaculate, without ever having fallen under the law (Gal 4: 4) and so redeemed preservatively, and who makes it possible for others to cooperate through her mediation (under and with Christ).
And followed up with...
Hedonism and the error that suffering has no redemptive value, that we can not participate in the sufferings of Christ because he has done it all, Christus Solus. I challenge you to find any heresy greater and more wide spread and causing more damage than this stigma against suffering, the unwillingness to take up one’s cross. Nothing “fuzzy” about this, nor anything more central to Christianity, especially in our times.
Asherahshalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
What do you care? That prohibition was only binding on Catholics and was a reaction to the Cathar and Waldensian heresies. It applied to the Koran as well. Although the Index Librorum Prohibitorum was relaxed in 1966, the Church still bans works associated with heresy, moral deficiency, sexual explicitness. Do deny the Church has the right to censor material it considers objectionable and dangerous materials.
So true...Just as Jesus came to the lost sheep of the house of Israel initially, and then later to the Gentiles; this was not revealed to the disciples in the Gospel accounts...It was revealed later but yet some (many) apparently haven't received that revelation yet even tho it's written in the scriptures...
Uri'el> What utter blasphemy !
NO ITS NOT!
The blood of only the slaughtered All else is sophistry. There is only ONE Lamb of G-d.
shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
Lamb covers our sins
Sorry but haven't seen too many new waves of theology bobbing around...Those of us who believe that the scriptures are literal and inerrant are pretty much in unity when it comes to our Christianity...
And how did we get that unity??? By prayerfully reading and searching out what God has to say...
Does it not intrigue you that we can come to such unity independantly of a central human authority??? Figure that one out and you'll know why were are not Catholic...
We are not in bondage to a religion that tells us what to think, believe and read...
HaHaHa...That is not a glaring contradiction...When 30 percent of you say that Jesus is literally present in your Eucharist and the other 70 percent say he isn't, THAT'S a glaring contradiction...And that's all under one failed human authority...
Yes, and He allows us through our free decisions to co operate with Him in our human nature to proclaim the Gospel to others and even join in His sufferings for the love of others
What is happening here, Uri’el-2012 is that RCCs are giving different meanings to “co”. Now it becomes “with” but not “equal to”. It just never ends, the changing of meanings to hinder being hoisted on their own petard. Once we pointed out that Mary was taught in the RCC to be a co-redeemer with Christ, suddenly it became she was not equal to Him but with Him. Evidently words mean something until they are no longer useful. Or some other such nonsense.
LOLshalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach;-)
That may be, but we are NOT, as RCCs claim Mary is, standing on the right hand of Christ, dispensing saving graces to RCs. That would make her a CO-REDEEMER.
AMEN, Iscool. AMEN!
We need to call on His NAME and Praise His Holy NAME. And if we love Him, That is all sweet and cute;
shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
but is all sophistry.
Totally non-scriptual.
to follow all of His Commandments.
It might bother Jesus.
Matthew 5:
43 "You have heard that it was said, `You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'
44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
46] For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
47 And if you salute only your brethren, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?
48 You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
You have much work to do Sweet Judith.
To fill up means to complete. Paul is simply stating his rejoicing in his sufferings and completing those sufferings for the church and for the truth. NOT the sufferings of Christ for our sins. All believers are called to suffer for the church and the truth. (Rom. 8:18; 2 Tim. 3:12).
Perhaps this might help you understand Mary’s role better
Written By Pope Leo XIII in 1891
The Eternal Son of God, about to take upon Him our nature for the saving and ennobling of man, and about to consummate thus a mystical union between Himself and all mankind, did not accomplish His design without adding there the free consent of the elect Mother, who represented in some sort all human kind, according to the illustrious and just opinion of St. Thomas, who says that the Annunciation was effected with the consent of the Virgin standing in the place of humanity.(5) With equal truth may it be also affirmed that, by the will of God, Mary is the intermediary through whom is distributed unto us this immense treasure of mercies gathered by God, for mercy and truth were created by Jesus Christ.(6.Jn 1.17) Thus as no man goeth to the Father but by the Son, so no man goeth to Christ but by His Mother. How great are the goodness and mercy revealed in this design of God! What a correspondence with the frailty of man! We believe in the infinite goodness of the Most High, and we rejoice in it; we believe also in His justice and we fear it. We adore the beloved Saviour, lavish of His blood and of His life; we dread the inexorable Judge. Thus do those whose actions have disturbed their consciences need an intercessor mighty in favour with God, merciful enough not to reject the cause of the desperate, merciful enough to lift up again towards hope in the divine mercy the afflicted and the broken down. Mary is this glorious intermediary; she is the mighty Mother of the Almighty; but-what is still sweeter - she is gentle, extreme in tenderness, of a limitless loving-kindness. As such God gave her to us. Having chosen her for the Mother of His only begotten Son, He taught her all a mother’s feeling that breathes nothing but pardon and love. Such Christ desired she should be, for He consented to be subject to Mary and to obey her as a son a mother. Such He proclaimed her from the cross when he entrusted to her care and love the whole of the race of man in the person of His disciple John. Such, finally, she proves herself by her courage in gathering in the heritage of the enormous labours of her Son, and in accepting the charge of her maternal duties towards us all.
I think your efforts are in vain.
Once our Lady is compared to a Asherah, the Canaanite demon, it’s time not only to end the thread but avoid it as an occasion of sin.
Yes, but is she considered by the Roman Catholic Church to be a Co-Redeemer with Christ? As in equal to Him in redemption?
