My son, the Great Physician.

Good post, metmom! Mary: "James, why can't you be more like Jesus. He always does what I ask without arguing or complaining?" LOL!!

That's something I hadn't thought of but surely there was sibling rivalry. Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 30+/- years living with siblings and not sinning. I suddenly feel the need to repent (but he started it) ;).

Jesus Christ passed through her womb, did He not?

Yep. That's all folks, no need for anything more!

Please show us where a sexless life for Christs mother is needed.. except by people that think sex between a husband and wife is just toooooo dirty for Christs mother..

My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden,
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm:
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and exalted those of low degree.
He has filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich He has sent empty away.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to His posterity forever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Magníficat ánima mea Dóminum,
et exsultávit spíritus meus
in Deo salvatóre meo,
quia respéxit humilitátem
ancíllæ suæ.

Ecce enim ex hoc beátam
me dicent omnes generatiónes,
quia fecit mihi magna,
qui potens est,
et sanctum nomen eius,
et misericórdia eius in progénies
et progénies timéntibus eum.
Fecit poténtiam in bráchio suo,
dispérsit supérbos mente cordis sui;
depósuit poténtes de sede
et exaltávit húmiles.
Esuriéntes implévit bonis
et dívites dimísit inánes.
Suscépit Ísrael púerum suum,
recordátus misericórdiæ,
sicut locútus est ad patres nostros,
Ábraham et sémini eius in sæcula.

Glória Patri et Fílio
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio,
et nunc et semper,
et in sæcula sæculórum.

Amen.

She became the Mother of God, in which work so many and such great good things are bestowed on her as pass man’s understanding. For on this there follows all honor, all blessedness, and her unique place in the whole of mankind, among which she has no equal, namely, that she had a child by the Father in heaven, and such a Child . . . Hence men have crowded all her glory into a single word, calling her the Mother of God . . . None can say of her nor announce to her greater things, even though he had as many tongues as the earth possesses flowers and blades of grass: the sky, stars; and the sea, grains of sand. It needs to be pondered in the heart what it means to be the Mother of God.

(Commentary on the Magnificat, 1521; in Luther’s Works, Pelikan et al, vol. 21, 326)

I gave you verses from Scripture that support the Church's authority to teach.

There is no authority for the church to make it up as they go along ..the church is to teach the gospel not to make up new teachings as they go along by some prophet pope.. ..that is no different than the mormons

I didn’t realize that.

You post 183 was in response to CB’s post 182 and it appeared that the complaint was about posting the link.

I looked further back and found the material.

My younger sister was much more compliant than I was and I heard that kind of statement myself.

It does not endear the hearer to the sibling.

Nobody can live up to the example set by Jesus, and it would have been near intolerable to have a sibling who was so perfect, to whom you’d always be compared.

Jesus sibling: “Mom, you never yell at (spank) Jesus.”

Mary: “That’s because he never does anything wrong.”

Even here, in Scripture as adults they are taunting Him.....

John 7:1-5 1After this Jesus went about in Galilee. He would not go about in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him. 2Now the Jews’ Feast of Booths was at hand. 3 So his brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea, that your disciples also may see the works you are doing. 4For no one works in secret if he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.” 5 For not even his brothers believed in him.

Of course not. Scripture clearly teaches that Mary and Joseph were still only engaged when they went to Bethlehem and Jesus was born. Therefore, Joseph didn’t have his “marital rights” before Our Lord was born because he wasn’t married yet.

After they were married is a different matter, though.

Where does Scripture say they were “married” then? How old was Our Lord when that occurred?

The marriage bed is undefiled. Scripture says so. Do not call “unclean” what God has said is clean.

If Mary remained a virgin or not...SO WHAT?

So, Mary and Joseph lived together unmarried? That is the only other option.

And if they presented to their community that they were living together as husband and wife and weren’t married, would that not have been deception, a sin?

Obviously a great many people in the NT thought that Jesus was Mary and Joseph’s own son. They didn’t recognize His deity and since they thought that Jesus was their own son, would have expected that to be evidence of a normal husband/wife relationship.

No, as faithful Jews that is exactly what they would not do: she had taken a vow, and he was an upright and righteous man who would not take what was not his.

Yawn. Logic clearly is no more your strong suit than theology.

Were Joseph and Mary married when Jesus was born? Before that?

Perhaps you failed high school anatomy and don’t know the difference between a womb and the birth canal. No baby “passes through” the womb. When you get your terminology straightened out, you let me know.

No, as faithful Jews that is exactly what they would not do: she had taken a vow, and he was an upright and righteous man who would not take what was not his.

Then Joseph disobeyed God.

Matthew 1:18-24 18Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as YOUR wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:
23 "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel"
(which means, God with us).

24When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, 25but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.
