For the Coming of the King
"Yet a little while, and He that shall come will come, and will not tarry." Hebrews 10:37.
The Last Crisis
We are living in the time of the end. The fast-fulfilling signs of the times declare that the coming of Christ is near at hand. The days in which we live are solemn and important... The calamities by land and sea, the unsettled state of society, the alarms of war, are portentous. They forecast approaching events of the greatest magnitude.
The agencies of evil are combining their forces and consolidating. They are strengthening for the last great crisis. Great changes are soon to take place in our world, and the final movements will be rapid ones.
The condition of things in the world shows that troublous times are right upon us. The daily papers are full of indications of a terrible conflict in the near future. Bold robberies are of frequent occurrence. Strikes are common. Thefts and murders are committed on every hand. Men possessed of demons are taking the lives of men, women, and little children. Men have become infatuated with vice, and every species of evil prevails.
The enemy (of souls) has succeeded in perverting justice and in filling men's hearts with the desire for selfish gain.
At least post someone who has recently been dead wrong or try you own hand at something new like, "Armageddon Antepasto And Other Ten Minute Sermons" or maybe, "Babes Begging For The Rocks To Fall". You need to sell the sizzle to get in on the royalty and speaking fee stream. Not everyone can slide from 1988, to 2007, and now well past 2050 like the old pros at the Bestselling Rapture Doctrine have managed to. Now they're even starting to have little internal battles and toss one another out of various little clubs.
-- Matthew Chapter 16, verse 28.
This was approx. a week before the Crucifixion. Christ's purpose was to give hope to His followers, who would feel abandoned after His death. In doing so, he gave an approx. timeframe for his return: the human lifespan.
Notice, He didn't say "Almost all of you standing here," or even "Most of you standing here," but rather only "some standing here." In other words: Not all standing there would still be alive to witness his coming in "the glory," etc.; rather, some will have died. But some will not have died. His listeners could thus console themselves that the wait would not be excessively long.
It thus follows that, when Christ comes in "the glory of His Father with His angels" and He "rewards every man according to his works," some of those who were standing there in His presence on that day a week before the Crucifixion shall not yet have tasted of Death.
And since He has not yet come in "the glory of His Father with His angels," etc., we can safety assume that some of Christ's listeners are still alive today, approx. 2,000 years later.
Regards,
It says man will not know the hour or the day....What about the year?
As for signs, I sure see what looks like a lot of signs. The one thing that always amazes me is how did someone 2,000 years ago know that we’d all need a number (credit card, DL, SS, etc.) to buy and sell. For that matter, who would have thought it a hundred years ago.
How many times have I heard that before? We're still here.
1. He said like a thief in the night.
2. There is no way we would know it.
3. It was said during WWI, the depression, WWI and such.
4. You would be surprised at how quickly things cna change and yes, I know it means for the worse as well as for the good.
Actually, God said “no man shall know the hour, not even the Son”. Essentially man can know the season, just study a bit. The problem with everyones prediction is, they try and tell the day or year. God has his own time, and it will be when all of his Word is fulfilled. Before Israel was replanted in Jerusalem and the Holy land, it could not happen. Before mass media, it could not happen. Before a One World system comes into being, is wounded unto death, then resurrected, it cannot happen. Just wait........pray and watch.
Since this was written over 100 years ago and Ellen G. White is long dead, apparently the end wasn’t *that* close when she wrote this.
Not a "number" - a "sign," i.e., a mark (like a tatoo or brand).
In Biblical times, livestock was frequently so marked. Even slaves could have been so marked. So, it's not a stretch to imagine ordinary freemen, too, being routinely marked in such a way.
Regards,
So, I think you are also inclined to use this rule regarding scripture? Are only your contemporaries relevant?
I’ve never heard of Ellen White.
I do know the Bible says this:
But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-5.
Note the “But”....
I hear what you’re saying... only time will tell.
Oh my God.
You guys are all going to die.
As for myself, I intend to go camping.
What does relevance have to do with it? I take time references like "soon" as applying to the time frame indicated by the text.
>>...only time will tell.<<
HA! That’s my line!
FWIW, I think we are either on the heels of the 70th week of Daniel and possibly approaching Ezekiel 39, or this will be like WWI and WWII. That is, very bad (worse, actually) but not the end.
I really hope it is the former. But, as you say, time will tell.
BTW, in case you are not aware of how seriously I take this, I bought a ~13 acre farm with a new house on it in central KY two weeks before Obama was elected. I live in Seattle but started looking for permanent employment in Kentucky in earnest late last year. We moved all of our stuff out there last summer. Yes, we can be 100% self sufficient on that property.
I take this very seriously. Again, see my tag line.
In 1 Thessalonians 5, Paul writes, “ 1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, Peace and safety! then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. 8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.”
You are quite right, and we are held responsible for knowing the season of His return for us and to be looking for Him as His Bride. Jesus, in the Olivet Discourse (Matt 24/25, Mark 13, Luke 21) tells us that we should be watching for Him and expecting Him. He is not a thief to us; we know He is coming and are waiting for Him with great expectation and desire to see Him. I highly encourage you to read all three of those accounts of the Olivet Discourse to get every detail. There are some who feel that Jesus was not speaking to the Church here in the discourse, but there would be no way to resolve His comments about the days of Noah and Lot being within the Tribulation because nothing will be normal then, especially not when He sets His foot down on the Mount of Olives.
All the more need tat that we all buy, read and pass on to unbelievers, Bill Weise’s book, “23 Minutes in Hell”, and the testimony of a young boy who had a near death experience, “Heaven is for Real”. Both of these books are available to us through God’s own revelation. We are blessed to have tangible evidence, based firmly on scripture to help bring in His flock while there is still time.
This part here, “For when they say, Peace and safety! then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman.”, is one of the verses that causes me to look for a SERIOUS ‘eye of the storm” moment. It may even be speaking of the AntiChrist who solves what people believe to be a very serious and unsolvable problem. I dunno. What I do know is what the Bible says about the end and it is like trying to explain “red” to a man that only sees in gray-scale.
Still, it seems to give us pretty clear instruction. I have gotten to the point, on a daily basis, where I scour the internet (mostly freerepublic) looking for what could be the clue that “this is it”. Yesterday I was even looking into the failure of some South Korean banks as the possible Canary in the coal mine. And it is not lost on me that problems are simply not going away - e.g. Iceland is back in the news.
I have said the the whole world right now is in a repeat of August of 1939, and September is a comin’.
This woman was a fraud and plagiarist.
Why not just pull the quotes right out of the bible—it makes a very plain case for the fact that we are approaching the end. Especially when you consider the unfulfilled prophecies and how elements that would be required to fulfill them are pretty much in place. It’s amazing.
