Even today there are Catholics who are calling for a return to the Inquisition and see nothing wrong with murdering those who disagree with your faith, and even try to provide Scripture to claim that it’s what Jesus taught.

From that we can see what a danger the Catholic church would still be. Nothing has intrinsically changed in it.

If it weren’t for civil governments and authorities who would put a stop to it pretty darn quick we’d still be seeing people being martyred, and apparently the action would be cheered on by some FRoman Catholics.

And, for now, some Catholics will settle for the abuse button.

Oh yes, one told me he was a big fan of the Inquisitions, that Rome’s treatment of men like Huss was her doing her best for their salvation, and who would like to see a RC monarchy in America. And that no Prots are going to Heaven except those who convert and die as Catholics, though they may not have formally joined the church.

This is one of the reasons Christians should never be sucked into the ecumenism movement. Christians and Roman Catholics have very different beliefs, not only about doctrine but also about the role of the church in a nation. I remember posting threads last year about the EO support for state licensing of Christian churches in Russia because they don't like the competition from the Baptists. The EO posters were very supportive of Baptist Churches being persecuted by the state.

I learned a long time ago you can never count on the RC's, or EO, as allies. They may be co-belligerents on some social issues, but never allies.
