I’m sorry you had that experience. The second set could have been a regular member and a new missionary or if you were LDS at one point it could have been “Home teachers”.

Ward members/missionaries out on splits with the deployed missionaries? Seems plausible/likely.

I found that the ward members were usually used to expound on how they “felt” after having joined the church or in being a member. The regular missionary would do most of the teaching with the companion doing some scriptural reading.

That’s the way it was for me the few times I went out on splits.
