Colofornian makes a good point. This is a Trinitarian Christian website. It is naive for non-Trinitarians to suspect that their views are going to embraced. It is a good place to share ideas, but I don't think we can discuss them in a vacuum.

Trinitarian Chrisitians sincerely believe and work to practice those beliefs. Non-Trinitarian Christians, including the LDS, are also sincere and work to practice those beliefs. But, we must recognize that these are beliefs, not reasoned mathematical proofs. The discussions do get hot and there is a regular attack force working to take down Mormonism, but as I stated this is a Trinitarian Christian website sponsored and fully owned by a Trinitarian Christian.

We are his guests. We expect Jim to be a good host and for the most part he is, that doesn't mean he has to agree with us. His tolerance for dissenting viewpoints is what makes FR interesting and keeps it from becoming simply a Drudge Report or Instapundit. That dynamism keeps our ideas fresh and makes conservatism strong. Debating the ideas of the day prepares us to take on the massive and destructive liberal onslaught that is destroying America and liberty.

We all agree on that, no?

The LDS religion and its dogma are a direct threat to Trinitarian Christianity. There is no middle ground for its most fervent believers, the group most anti-Mormon. The LDS claim to being the one true Church insults them to the core. This is an assault on their basic beliefs. To expect them to acquiesce is naive.

The two sides will rarely, if ever meet. All religion is proselyting to a certain extent and some are more aggressive. When you have two aggressively proselyting Christian groups meeting on a website that acts as a sounding board for ideas there will be conflict and passion. We see it off the Religion Forum as well.

That said, the Religion Forum is the most vicious and embittered of all the forums. Which is why I mostly stay away from it. It generates more heat than light. I hate to see otherwise thoughtful gentle people who share a common love of country, family and liberty at each others throats. I'm certain each of you would make a wonderful neighbor and good friend in the flesh.

My suggestion is that the LDS ignore the anti-Mormon threads. They actually act as a form of advertising on non-LDS caucus threads. FReepers can think for themselves and weigh the evidence. We all know that eventually the truth outs.

That each of us is a sincere, thoughtful believer is part of America where we tolerate differing religions and have a uniquely American respect for conscious.

Let's practice that now.

Prove it.

There are hundreds of threads and probably thousands of posts made daily on FR...do you inspect them all for "viciousness"?

IMO, much of the time on the RF the "hate" is in the eye of the beholder who has his own little axe to grind.

I think the Michelle Obama Fashionista threads are the most vicious. For bitter, I would go with the "Birther" threads.

Which just goes to show that viciousness and bitterness are not necessarily uncalled for, LOL!
