What the Heck, I am still researching Charles Melson
Pension application The earliest record that we have of him is his pension record from the Revolutionary war, he was a private. There are two oral traditions, one that he came over as an indentured servant, and first served for his master, then served on his own after his time was up, the other is that he came over as a red coat and turn-coated to fight for the colonists. Both stories say he changed his name one to avoid the death penalty of the redcoats the other to avoid the possibility of being re-indentured. We do know that he was friends with John Dent, descendant of the famous clock maker who built Big Ben in London. If anyone has information on where Charles Melson came from birth records, family bible, parish records, I would be most grateful for any assistance. Please FM me.
