Thanks for your thoughts, Reaganaut.
What would you consider a true confession of faith as opposed to a false or inadequate one?
Normandy
A true confession of faith is an absolute surrender to Christ, not involving a church in any way, accepting that only He can save you and your works are nothing. Realizing you are a sinner who NEEDS Jesus alone to save you. Realizing works don’t do a thing, and can even hurt you without Christ. It is the shunning of ALL religion, and an embrace of Christ alone. You realize there is no ‘true church’ (denomination) but that the only church is the body of all true believers
It also involves a belief in the Jesus of the BIBLE, which is very specific (eternally God, not created, paid for your sins on the Cross - not the garden, no extra works (outside the Bible). Things Mormons don’t believe.
You have to know the true Christ before you can truly confess Him. It changes you. Just saying a prayer or saying you believe won’t cut it.
Explaining what being born again is to a non Christian is hard, it is like explaining what a rainbow looks like to a blind man. But once you have experienced it, you know and other believers know as well.
Get a non LDS KJV and read John, Romans, and Hebrews (non LDS because the headings tell you how to interpret). Ask God to open your eyes and not read it through the LDS filter. That is a good first step.
