Thank you I was coming from the point of view distortion in history so therefore the person is banking on truth when it was founded on a faulty foundation therefore making ones out come skewed.

Well, if you throw in “and it came to pass”, that covers nearly half of the bom right there.

Shirley; you jest!

Amazing how the “god” in the Book of Mormon forgets that his creatures will suffocate to death in a boat “tight like unto a dish” until the mortal man reminds him to put some air holes in it.

In the BOTTOM of the boat?

Let us not forget the OTHER great phrase:

Book of Moses (Pearl of Great Price)

Chapter 3

(June–October 1830)

God created all things spiritually before they were naturally upon the earth—He created man, the first flesh, upon the earth—Woman is a help meet for man.

 1Thus the aheaven and the earth were finished, and all the bhost of them.

 2And on the seventh day I, God, ended my work, and all things which I had made; and I arested on the bseventh day from all my work, and all things which I had made were finished, and I, God, saw that they were good;

 3And  I, God, ablessed the seventh day, and bsanctified it; because that in it I had rested from all my cwork which  I, God, had created and made.

 4And now, behold, I say unto you, that these are the generations of the heaven and of the earth, when they were acreated, in the day that I, the Lord God, made the bheaven and the earth,

 5And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew. For I, the Lord God, acreated all things, of which I have spoken, bspiritually, before they were cnaturally upon the face of the earth. For I, the Lord God, had not caused it to rain upon the face of the earth. And I, the Lord God,  had dcreated all the children of men; and not yet a man to till the eground; for in fheaven gcreated I them; and there was not yet flesh upon the earth, neither in the water, neither in the air;

 6But I, the Lord God, spake, and there went up a amist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

 7And  I, the Lord God,  formed man from the adust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the bbreath of life; and cman became a living dsoul, the efirst flesh upon the earth, the first man also; nevertheless, all things were before created; but spiritually were they created and made according to my word.

 8And I, the Lord God,  planted a garden eastward in aEden, and there I put the man whom I had formed.

 9And out of the ground made  I, the Lord God,  to grow every tree, anaturally, that is pleasant to the sight of man; and man could behold it. And it became also a bliving soul. For it was spiritual in the day that I created it; for it remaineth in the sphere in which I, God, created it, yea, even all things which I prepared for the use of man; and man saw that it was good for food. And  I, the Lord God,  planted the ctree of life also in the midst of the garden, and also the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

 10And  I, the Lord God,  caused a river to go out of aEden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four bheads.

 11And I, the Lord God,  called the name of the first Pison, and it compasseth the whole land of aHavilah, where I, the Lord God,  created much gold;

 12And the gold of that land was good, and there was bdellium and the aonyx stone.

 13And the name of the second river was called Gihon; the same that compasseth the whole land of aEthiopia.

 14And the name of the third river was Hiddekel; that which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river was the Euphrates.

 15And  I, the Lord God,  took the man, and put him into the Garden of aEden, to dress it, and to keep it.

 16And  I, the Lord God,  commanded the man, saying: Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat,

 17But of the tree of the aknowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it, nevertheless, thou mayest bchoose for thyself, for it is given unto thee; but, remember that I cforbid it, for in the dday thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely edie.

 18And  I, the Lord God, said unto mine aOnly Begotten, that it was not good that the man should be balone; wherefore, I will make an chelp meet for him.

 19And out of the ground I, the Lord God,  formed every abeast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and commanded that they should come unto Adam, to see what he would call them; and they were also living souls; for I, God, breathed into them the bbreath of life, and commanded that whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that should be the name thereof.

 20And Adam gave anames to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but as for Adam, there was not found an help meet for him.

 21And I I, the Lord God, caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam; and he slept, and I took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in the stead thereof;

 22And the rib which I, the Lord God, had taken from man, made I a awoman, and brought her unto the man.

 23And aAdam said: This I know now is bone of my bones, and bflesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of man.

 24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall acleave unto his bwife; and cthey shall be done flesh.

 25And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Never an admission that ‘Yep, we’re lying when we say the Mormon Christ is the biblical Christ.’

- - - - —
There is a reason for that. Mormonism teaches that their Christ IS the Biblical Christ and that the Christ of ‘traditional Christianity’ as Hinkley said is a FALSE CHRIST.

IOW, they consider us all apostates and of the church of the devil and following a false Christ, and they think their Christ is the only biblical one, even though their Christology is counter to the Bible.

Yeah, I have heard that before. I suspect there is some real truth to it.

It would be difficult for a woman, who is married publicly, and then also married privately (either with or without her legal husband’s consent), to publicly state that their child was the spawn of a man who was still denying polygamy at the time.

For the husbands, if they knew or suspected, public repudiation would cost them their membership and everything they had and maybe even their lives.

I suspect that if there were DNA studies done, we would discover that Smith had more than one child by his polygamist wives.

For nearly five decades he [Monson]has offered “living water” to those so desperately in need. Church members from Tahiti to Germany have watched him, followed him, and been taught by him with words that speak spirit-to-spirit

- - - - - - - -
Ok, I used to be Mormon and THAT quote shocked me.

Monson give the ‘living water’? Watched him, followed him, etc.

You can’t get much more blatant in making Monson out to be Christ!

Condolences as well from me. My husband is my soulmate and best friend so I can only imagine what it would be like to lose him.

We met when we were three and grew up together, I honestly cannot imagine my life without him.

"The book seems to be merely a prosy detail of imaginary history, with the Old Testament for a model; followed by a tedious plagiarism of the New Testament. The author labored to give his words and phrases the quaint, old-fashioned sound and structure of our King James's translation of the Scriptures; and the result is a mongrel--half modern glibness, and half ancient simplicity and gravity. The latter is awkward and constrained; the former natural, but grotesque by the contrast. Whenever he found his speech growing too modern--which was about every sentence or two--he ladled in a few such Scriptural phrases as "exceeding sore," "and it came to pass," etc., and made things satisfactory again. "And it came to pass" was his pet. If he had left that out, his Bible would have been only a pamphlet."

I've had many discussions over the KJV-ish BOM with Mormons. It just goes over their head. Why would someone in the nineteenth century translate a book into King James English. Unless of course he ws trying to “trick” people.

Twain was a contemporary of the times of Smith and he couldn't understand why it had the King James prose.

To this day Mormons pray in King James prose. Because it's respectful? Which leads to the question. What do you pray in if you are Japanese, German, Spanish etc?

Twain in the book Roughing It points out that the BOM condemns polygamy. Also he writes that Joe Smith didn't practice polygamy. And that Brigham did. Twain also dedicates many pages to Brigham Young and The Mountain Meadow Massacre.
