Jesus never tried to convince people of who he was, what he did reflected who he was....

Norm, Norm, Norm. That isn’t a prophecy, that is a ‘Captain Obvious’ statement.

I can ‘prophesy’ the same thing about me. Els can do the same, Sandra Tanner, Barack Obama, George Bush, EVERYONE can ‘prophecy’ the same thing.

Does that make them a prophet? Not at all. And it doesn’t make Smith one either.

BTW, if you want to be nit picky, he uses the term ‘all nations’. There are several nations in Africa and the Middle East you haven’t heard of Joe Smith. So even there it is a failed prophecy.

email the formatted lexicon file to anyone requesting a copy

No need for that; just POST it.

We can grab the formating with no problem.

Not sure what has offended you, but you should consider the source and avoid it.

Perhaps an ox has been gored.

A MORMON post in this thread DID say that thin-skinned folks shouldn't play in these waters. ELSIE paraphrase.

Norm, a change in behavior is not required, it will follow when the person is faithing (yes, the verb form) in Jesus Christ as their Savior daily. Being Born Again is usually characterized by the changes in the behavior of the one newly born into God's family. You cannot change your basic inherited nature with the expectation that God will then grant to you His Grace because you've become 'holy enough' to be called by His name.

It is a cart and horse sort of analogy: once you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart (that place which God sees and men cannot) that God raised Him fromt he dead, you ARE saved. God's name is I AM ... it is a name in the eternal present for a reason. God is unchanging, resolute. To be Born Again is to become 'in the present' eternally. Some put it as 'once saved, always saved'. That's as good a way to express it as any. Mormonism turns that around to read 'once worthy, then saved'. THAT is a direct contradiction to what God accomplished in the person and crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus The Christ, GOD with us, God come in the flesh to dwell among us.

So when you ask of Elsie or any Christian, "Are you suggesting that a change in behavior, and not just a confession of faith, is required to inherit the kingdom of God?", you evidence that you haven't yet grasped the truth of Jesus Christ and Him crucified. In the words of Jesus/God Himself, 'the work of God is that you believe on Him WHom God has sent.' Once you believe/faithe/trust in a daily walk, the One WHom God has sent, your behavior will change because you will be a new creation in Christ Jesus. The changes will not be instantaneous, but God has made the Promise--and God cannot lie--that His SPirit will be with you always, continuously, eternally, and He will change you to conform into the image He has already chosen for you.

In other words, Joseph was an uneducated person who was unable to perform manual labor, could not work as a tradesman, and could not live on an inheritance.

Surely you do NOT refer to the Great mind of Joseph Smith!!

Why; in his life he somehow managed to find enough time to learn GERMAN; and learn it quite well; evidently!

If you cannot turn to the original Hebrew for possible meanings, it is sometimes helpful to try other translations. It is interesting to note that the Prophet Joseph Smith recommended such possible study procedures. He said:

“Our latitude and longitude can be determined in the original Hebrew with far greater accuracy than in the English version. There is a grand distinction between the actual meaning of the prophets and the present translation.” (See Documentary History of the Church, vol, 5, pp. 339–45.)

With reference to something of value noted in another translation of a part of the Bible, he once said:

“I have an old edition of the New Testament in the Latin, Hebrew, German and Greek languages. I have been reading he German and find it to be the most nearly correct translation, and to correspond nearest to the revelations which God has given to me for the last fourteen years.” (Times and Seasons, vol. 5, p. 614.) More...

The influence of German and German people seems to have matured in the Prophet Joseph Smith before his death in 1844. He apparently had gained some understanding of the German language, for in his last public speech, given at the funeral of a man named King Follett, he remarked, "I have been reading the German, and find [the Lutheran Bible] to be the most (nearly) correct translation, and to correspond nearest to the revelations which God has given to me for the last fourteen years."12 In the same sermon, the acknowledged climax of the Prophet's career, he translated into English while reading from the German Bible and added, "I know the text is true. I call upon all you Germans who know that it is true to say, Eye [sic]. (Loud shouts of 'Aye.')"13 A few days later Joseph Smith made further reference to this subject: "The Germans are an exalted people. The old German translators are the most nearly correct—most honest of any of the translators."14

"Our missionaries are going forth to different nations, and in Germany . . . the Standard of Truth has been erected," wrote Joseph Smith in his famous 1842 Wentworth Letter, adding, "no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing."15 The church founder also stated that "out of the different German tribes will yet some day a great nation grow and in these countries many would yet hear and accept the Gospel."16 When the Prophet made this statement, Germany was divided into many small states, and unification would not occur until 1871, at the beginning of the Second Reich. Joseph Smith is also quoted as saying that thousands and tens of thousands of the House of Israel are among the German-speaking people.17

A true prophecy indeed.
