The problem is that everyone here is interpreting the bible as if god himself put pen to paper. The fact is this is a mans interpretation of what he believes of what he thought god told him. Now, about that other woman adam had, what was her name, you know, the one that was not subservient to him?I'll throw this out there also. The tree of knowledge of good and evil may have had nothing at all to do with an actual tree or fruit, rather it was the act of sex,and that was the original sin the author was trying to convey. That would have been quite the temptation of man, having a woman made just for him, both of them walking around naked and told not to partake of it.

You mean Lilith?

both of them walking around naked and told not to partake of it.

They weren't told they couldn't have sex. They were told only to have sex when God wanted them to (in season, so to speak). This was so that birth would be in harmony with the seasons, and the Universe.

Adam and Eve listened to the serpent (the lust) in themselves and decided different. That is why God told Eve that women would have pain in childbirth from then on. That is the 'punishment' for procreating at will, and no longer 'listening' to God.

At least, that's what I read.
