Why would Jesus talk to a man who was dead? Lazarus could not hear! Lazurus had already passed and was totally incapable of raising himself from the dead any more than you or I could. So what was going on here? Jesus was not issuing a command. Jesus loved and respected Lazarus and would never issue a “command” to him. No, Jesus would have made a heartfelt plea to Lazarus to come back to the living, just as you might tell a dying uncle to please not go and to come back. A command? No. Jesus could have simply had the thought and it would have happened. What took place was Jesus praying aloud for everyone to hear for Lazarus to arise from the dead. This is extremely important for us to understand. And to whom did Jesus pray? To Himself? To the Holy Spirit? To God the Father? No. Jesus prayed to Lazarus! Jesus here shows us that yes we can communicate to the dead through prayer! God hears these prayers and intercedes on our behalf.

Psst! Psst! Hey Laz, can you hear me? Listen Mary and Martha are a bit shook up. Sorry I was late. I can help you, if you want. Blink once for yes.

Is that more appropriate? LOL!!

Of course it was a command! Jesus took control over the situation.

God is the architect of creation. If Jesus, who is God, told rocks to proclaim His glory, they would do so. That's in the gospel. Read it.

Stop parsing words. God is the creator and king of everything, including the master you serve. Jesus does not need to ask anyone anything. He's coming back to establish his millennial reign.

Here's a crazy idea. Shake your fist at him and demand him to reveal himself. I dare ya!

No. Jesus prayed to Lazarus!

You are the first Catholic that has publically admitted that its OK to pray TO dead people. At least we have clarity on that point.

Jesus loved and respected Lazarus and would never issue a “command” to him.

Of course He would. God commanded people to do lots of things.

Jesus is God. Lazarus is man.

Jesus is creator. Lazarus is created.

Jesus is master and Lord. Lazarus is human and servant.

That is one of the most ludicrous lines of reasoning I ever heard.

Jesus loves, yes, and although nothing in Scripture states that he respected Lazarus, that probably could go without saying. But that in no way precludes the master and creator of the universe from issuing a command to someone else.

That kind of thinking that loving and *respecting * someone who mean that they never tell them what to do, is what's wrong with this country. It's PC mentality.
