"Papal infallibility" wasn't even declared a dogma of the Roman church until Pius IX That is true, although a similar belief has been held continually since the Early Church. Vatican I specified that the Pope can go against the consensus of the bishops; that was the only thing that some might call an innovation. On the other hand, St. Athanasius went "contra mundum" in 4c. and we all praise him for that.

Hey Quix, I was hoping 4c was an apartment number but I'm beginning to believe we either have some real old folks here or there are dead spirits talking.
