It doesn't of course. John 3:16 simply says that you have to believe Christ in order to be saved by Christ. So you have, among other things, do what He says, and that includes the good works that He teaches. Surely John 3:16 does not say "Beleive in Christ, except what He teaches in Matthew 5-7". So, you proved my point. Thank you. The point was that you claim "Protestants" must put their spin on verses of scripture, and I showed you that you do exactly that. You HAVE to, because, to you verses in context cannot mean what they say, they have to be spun to adhere to the Catholic Church's dogmas.
