Actually if one were to accept the Reformation Theology taught by Luther et al, one would have to accept that our friends from Westboro Baptist and the publisher of the cute little books and Vicky Gene are all christians in good standing on their way to heaven. Even Luther said the more you sin the closer you are to God.

You use the term liar, I just said he took that label himself and it was not what Christ's word for him was. If he was not called to be an apostle by Christ it was a LIE..one who lies is a LIAR
But even Peter put forth what makes an apostle when lots were thrown and Matthias took Judas place as an apostle..Paul did not meet even Peter's criteria of what it takes to be an apostle...
Yea pick a successor by gambling..thats the ticket..
Can you show me in scripture where Jesus gave any of the apostles the authority or the right to usurp HIS authority and pass on the gifts given to the apostles He selected? Hint..He never did
..They had no right to select a replacement for Judas. Christ knew that Judas would betray Him ..He knew Judas would kill himself..SOOOOOOO IF Jesus wanted THEM to select a man to be the replacement for Judas, He would have told them that and how to do it..
I think the fact that we never hear of Matthias again in the NT speaks volumes . Whereas the man selected BY CHRIST is the primary catechist of the new church and a primary author of the NT
Peter, James and John considered Paul an apostle,Acts calls him an apostle and Peter called Pauls epistles scripture ...but you must have information that the apostles did not huh?

I never thought of it in those terms before. Thanks for that Scriptural understanding.

AMEN!

Paul did not meet even Peter's criteria of what it takes to be an apostle... Not at that point in time.
You do have to at least be a believer to qualify.
What it shows the most is that the disciples were not in touch with what God had in mind. If Peter was the first pope, as Catholics claim, he blew his first decision big time.

I am comfortable with what I found in scripture..as I know you are comfortable with what you find in scriptureAnd if comfort were the reason we participated in these discussions, that would be the end of it.
But God commands us to preach the Gospel in truth.
No doubt Mormons and Scientologists are comfortable with their beliefs, too. That doesn't make them Christianity.

"But God commands us to preach the Gospel in truth." Except that much of what you preach isn't Gospel. He also commands you to live the Gospel. When are you going to get around to that?

We all know they are called "The Gospel According To Matthew", "The Gospel According To Mark", etc. The word in Greek is euaggelion and means "good/glad news", "glad/good tidings". The question all along has been what do you think the good news is? And all along we answer. The Gospel is what we have of the life, teaching, and results of the Incarnation of Jesus. I am kinda baffled as to what more you guys are after. Is Jesus Christ, the Incarnation of Almighty God not good enough?

In a mocking tone the Gospels are listed as a response to the question " what is the gospel?" How dumb are those proddys huh?? They say they know the bible but do not know the gospel .. If I recall correctly, you were the one who claimed that the Gospels did not apply to Christians.
Yea it ends up that we are not the ones that look foolish and ignorant
Are you sure, with statements like this? The Reformed folks have been making rather startling statements much of this thread which bear no resemblence to Christianity.

The Gospel existed long before the books we call the gospels were written..What was the gospel Jesus preached? What was the gospel that the apostles preached? The life, teaching and results of Jesus. The focus throughout the Gospels is the teaching of Jesus. Christianity is not a religion of the book; it is the Faith given to the Apostles by Christ. You guys seem effectively no different than Muslims, with only the names changed.
