In Christ Alone lyrics
Songwriters: Getty, Julian Keith; Townend, Stuart Richard;
In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand
In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless Babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save
?Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live, I live
There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory Sin?s curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ
LOL. This "historian" claims "impenetrable darkness" on Peter's succession but then goes on to admit there are numerous references to the line from wide ranging sources. After Peter was executed by Roman authorities, there were a series of short-lived successors who were executed amidst an environment of secrecy and disorder. With such a great volume of evidence on Peter's line, it is not surprising to find discrepancies that leave out or confuse some of the short and secretive reins.
Your post clearly demonstrates that nobody doubts the fact that Peter had successors.
More precisely, the form used would indicate that the words in quotes were Schaff's words verbatim and the following sentence was a paraphrase or summary of Schaff's continuation of the thought. The reference clearly attributes the idea expressed to Schaff.
What makes these fanciful tales fraudulent is that they contradict the truthful record, the Scriptures, we do have and purport to be what they are not.
“Since this story is apparently a reproduction of the biblical account of the conception of Samuel, whose mother was also called Hannah, even the name of the mother of Mary seems to be doubtful.” Catholic Encyclopedia
Even Catholics realize this story is a fraud.
“Too much time spent with your pastor?”
No...too much spent with yours!
Thanks for pointing out the misleading quote from smvoice.
What is your basis for this assertion? 2Tim 3:16 does not say that scriptures tell us everything necessary for salvation.
“Which all gets back to the original question of WHY Catholics are so obsessed with her perpetual virginity.”
Part of the pagan Roman religion given a whitewash. Which also explains why that the “perpetual virginity of Mary” apostasy is not to be even hinted at in Scriptures.
{{{sigh}}}
You frequently post this disgusting animal picture in lieu of discussion. These posts are disrespectful and off-topic. I request that you discontinue this practice.
Which all gets back to the original question of WHY Catholics are so obsessed with her perpetual virginity.
Perhaps it’s because they know their priests have a very difficult time staying virgins so they like to pretend someone made it???
The reality is that it is anti-Catholics who are obsessed with denying her perpetual virginity.
Mary had 7 or more children: Jesus the firstborn (or oldest) and at least 6 others, with at least 2 or more being daughters. But there is even more truth on this subject found in the Old Testament book of Psalms, where it is stated in the first person singular, as being spoken of by Jesus:
"My Own Mother's Sons"
(Psa. 69:8,9). I am a stranger to my brothers, an alien to MY OWN MOTHERS'S SONS; for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.
That is a Messianic Psalm, that is, it has application to Messiah Jesus. This is clear since this Psalm is quoted in the New Testament (Jn. 2:17) and shown there to apply to the Lord. The point is: Jesus became "an alien to MY OWN MOTHER'S SONS." This alienation is clearly evident at John 7:3-5. Before we look at that passage, please note that Scripture explicitly declares that Jesus' mother (Mary) had other "sons" (Psalm 69:8)!
This verse alone is an irrefutable and devastating blow to the idea that the blessed Mary remained a virgin throughout her lifetime. Remember, Joseph had no sexual union with Mary "till" Jesus, Mary's "firstborn," came into this world.

Actually, I find the horse laugh about 1/10,000th as disgusting as most of your outrageously HYSTERICAL, UNHISTORICAL, UNBIBLICAL, ILLOGICAL posts.
However, thanks for the applause.
. . . except that the subject only comes up because some Protestants are so obsessed with denying it.
Everything God INTENDED us to know of the life of Christ is written so we may believe..
Making doctrine out of silence is not an infallible process.. it is nothing more than guess work and the dreams of men
Remember when Paul spoke there was no "NT" as such.. the "traditions " have since been recorded in the scriptures
Col 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
Why are you so obsessed with the Freudian concept of obsession? Does your position require a resort to the discredited tactics of psychoanalysis?
*asterisk and "quotation marks are thoughts that smvoice has put into her words. Please do not attribute the quotation marks or the asterisk to the Pope, Lady Ga-Ga, or Ghandi.
smvoice didn't make his commentary part of the quote and if that's too difficult to see I suggest enlarging the type size. Sorry, no points to be scored here.
Perhaps its because they know their priests have a very difficult time staying virgins so they like to pretend someone made it???
So it is clearly from the Evil One. You will notice that YHvH does not require virginity.

Of course, the irrational slipping, sliding, obfuscating, shucking, jiving, wailing and whining around that TRUTH OF SCRIPTURE by the RC's knows no bounds.
Just as they fail utterly to deal with the fact that the New Testament verses make no rational contextual linguistic sense if blood brothers and sisters were NOT the point of the verses.
It increasingly appears to me that most of the rabid RC's on FR are either shockingly blinded, willfully blinded, deluded and/or atheist trolls pretending to be RC's. It's difficult to think that authentic Christians could be so contrary to Scripture.
You assert that God did not intend us to know the Apostolic traditions unwritten in scripture? On what evidence?
