In Christ Alone lyrics

Songwriters: Getty, Julian Keith; Townend, Stuart Richard;

In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless Babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save

?Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live, I live

There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory Sin?s curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ

Wow, you sound like a Democrat working on the Coons campaign, or perhaps a CBS employee up in Alaska.

the criteria was to have seen Christ and been commissioned by Him to plant churches etc. Paul qualifies.

That is correct.

"Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection." -- Acts 1:21-22

Luther is the author of the fundamental doctrine of protestantism.

There are no Catholic doctrines authored by perverts.

Your introduction of a straw man argument makes your position seem pretty weak. You can do better.

"Rome lies. Rome has always lied."

Thank God you are not speaking about the Catholic Church.

Now for the truth. Calvin lied. Calvinists have always lied. Calvinism requires that one first lie to oneself, then to the world, then lie about the Church and lastly lie to God.

#47: Protestant doctrine embraces evil. Catholic doctrine rejects evil. And of course, there are sinners whose actions run counter to doctrine. With your logic we would have to conclude that Jesus’ moral teachings were incorrect because most of his audience rejected his moral teachings. Protestant doctrine embraces birth control and gayness and divorce. Catholic doctrine rejects all three. And I follow these doctrines.

Same point: no one can deny that the various protestant sects that have followed Luther’s example of breaking away when conscience calls has led to breathtaking protestant doctrines that claim moral evils are actually moral goods (divorce, homosexualism, birth control, living in sin, condom use by junior high kids, abortion, etc. ) and that Catholic doctrine refuses to change and embrace such evils as good despite the personal sinfulness of its members and even of its clergy.

I’ve long suspected that nl is a demonrat mole. I suspect that nl is a supporter of Chavez style Romanist Social Justice theory.

Luther may have enjoyed a robust vocabulary, but he didn’t rape young boys like so many Roman Catholic “alter Christus” do and have done.

Great illustration of the false bishop of Rome and the allegiance he is owed.

Luther is the author of the fundamental doctrine of protestantism - a perverted mind is your doctrinal hero.

There are no Catholic doctrines authored by perverts.

Your introduction of a straw man argument makes your position seem pretty weak.

Your posts are nothing but empty rhetoric. Same old, same old. No Scripture. No rebuttal. No defense of your faith.

Just smarmy comments.

“Name me one Calvinist poster on this thread that does not believe that he or she is of the Scriptural elect. How does that belief occur?”

God in His mercy has made it clear in His Word that the assurance of salvation is granted to any who repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and in Him alone for their salvation. Calvinists call this ‘perspicuity.’I am confident the citations to the Word have been provided numerous times in the past.

“Where is it written that, for example, the poster known as esquirette knows that he or she is of the elect?”

In fact, only the one who endures to the end is manifestly saved (citation omitted), so our election individually is not written where you and I may read it, but I pray that my name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. The Bible is replete with how the righteous (elect) will behave. We should all be checking ourselves against the standard He has set for us as set forth in, say, Psalm 1. Again, numerous citations omitted.

“If there is no direct message from God - a blinding light on the road to Damascus in the companionship of several friends might do ...”

Surely, we do have the Law and the Prophets, and the Lord Himself stated that these would be sufficient to tell us of the way to Heaven. See Luke 16.

“. . . - that you (the individual) are of that elect now, then either one must contradict the Calvinist teaching that the elect is not all of mankind, or else that Calvinists are Gnostic and not Christian at all.”

True - the term ‘elect’ encompasses not all of mankind, for the Calvinist is not a universalist, but perhaps I misunderstand your point, for it seems that the lack of universality is the notion to which you object.

This is sort of like the Jews being the ‘chosen people.’ Some take that to mean God chose them because they were special, and therefore they were chosen. Quite the contrary. They are special because God chose them.

The elect are chosen by God purely on His own merit and by His own grace and mercy. They are not saved because they are elect. They are elect because they are saved, and that not of themselves. Nothing to boast about, unless they boast in Christ. More citations omitted.

The scripture you quote pertains to Matthias being chosen to fill Judas place.

After praying, lots were thrown and Matthias had been with Jesus since his Baptism, which was one of the criteria Peter talked of before lots were thrown. If that was one of the criteria, being with Jesus from the baptism until he was chosen, Paul does not fit the criteria of being with Jesus since his baptism, so I still do not have an answer, by Peters own prayer, he stated the criteria for being chosen an apostle.

Peter said you had to be with Jesus since he was baptized. Prayer was said for God to choose by lot. Matthias was chosen and became the 12 apostle. As 12 were necessary because Jesus originally chose 12. Not 13.

Were prayers said and lots thrown to have Paul become a apostle..Or was Paul self anointed...One would not have to be an apostle to be sent to the gentiles.

It seems Paul wanted that title and just took it. He was not with Jesus since his Baptism by John.

You must’ve come to these conclusions after smoking the sofa. If you’d lived your life as a Protestant P.K. immersed in Protestant doctrine and apologetics as I did, and attended seminary, you’d know the truth. Amazing that you’d air such extreme ignorance on the world-wide web. Very sad.

I don’t waste much time on a guy whose major “argument” is the strawman that Catholic doctrine is false because some prominent Catholics are sinners.

Th Church is a Church of sinners in need of a Savior. There is no shame or contradiction in that.

I am saddened that you are blind to gospel doctrine by the sins of men.

Peter says the criteria was to have walked with Jesus since his Baptism, so what you state is ***what some say*** not what Jesus or Peter says...
