Can you disagree with your Chief Prophet [sic] and still be a mormon [sic]? Can you disagree with you Bishop and still get a Temple Recommend?

The temple recommend interview does not include any questions about agreeing or disagreeing with the leaders of the LDS Church.

We are expected to sustain the leaders of the church. That means we give them our loyalty and support, acknowledging their authority to act in the church, even when we may disagree with them.

For example, I know a number of active Latter-day Saints who opposed California's Proposition 8 and believe the LDS Church was wrong to support it. Nevertheless, they remain members in good standing.

So, if I understand you correctly, you can disagree
PRIVATELY, and as long as you support the Head Prophet
PUBLICALLY, despite your personal beliefs, there is
no retribution?

Can you disagree and make it public?
Can you disagree and work to convince others the existing policy is wrong?

[for example, during the days you discriminated as a Church against blacks, could you have led protests around the SLC Headquarters, demanding a change of policy? What would have happened, had you done this, to your membership and future temple recommend?]

Can you tell others throughout your ward in one to one conversations about your areas of disagreement?

Can you let your Bishop know that you disagree and are starting
an email discussion about the topic?

Can you start a website or forum on a topic that disagrees
with your leadership?

I need clarification.

Thank you,
ampu

PS - not sure what happened to blind Saundra?

parsing words.... “sustain” as opposed to “agree.”

In a way you are correct, logo. You can disagree as much as you want as long as you don’t do it publicly, openly, or disobediently. You must obey, you must support and sustain, or forfeit your Temple Recommend.

So where does that leave an honest Mormon who disagrees with its tenets? If he speaks out - he loses out. ... Or he learns to keep everything inside and become dishonest to himself and others.
