The article was sarcastic, snide and intentionally, I believe, ignored what the rally was about. It was not a church service. Beck's goal is to not to water down any faith with a "ecumenical inter-faith service". Beck lifts his themes from the founding era, mainly from the DOI. He is attempting to replicate the unity which transcended religious differences John Adams spoke of in 1813 letter to Jefferson:
Who composed that Army of fine young Fellows that was then before my Eyes? There were among them, Roman Catholics, English Episcopalians, Scotch and American Presbyterians, Methodists, Moravians, Anababtist, German Lutherans, German Calvinists Universalists, Arians, Protestants, Deists and Atheists; and “Protestans qui ne croyant rien.” Very few however of several of these Species present. There is nothing in what Adams described or Beck promoted at the rally which tells anyone to worship "Baal", water down or give up their faith.
There is the problem right there...
Seems more people today are getting their 'Christianity" from Oprah Winfrey and new age feel good books and presentations by "Christian" experts. We have seen ample evidence of that on these boards the past few days
The great irony is that as this continues even if we simply stick the the political arguments Beck makes, those too will fail to come about.
Without real traditional Christian leadership there will be no long term Conservative recovery. God is tolerant and he is patient but he will not be ignored. He built America, he can walk away from it.
