Yes Hitler was evil and it would be careless to believe that he would have not been evil were he not Catholic. His true darkness didn't really manifest itself until he joined the Nazis and they were mainly obsessed with Germanic paganism. A person's religion in Germany at the time of Hitler's birth was almost entirely a matter of geography, some areas of Germany were nearly all Catholic and some nearly all Lutheran.
