Just for the record, in case there should be an assumption on the part of some that Catholics believe otherwise:

The Catholic Church does not teach that the Beatitudes are “works needed to be saved” or that they are to be “taken in a legalistic sense”.

“Beatitude makes us ‘partakers of the divine nature’ and of eternal life (2Peter 1:4, cf John 1:3) Such beatitude surpasses the understanding and powers of man. It comes from an entirely free gift of God...”
“They (Beatitudes) shed light on the on the actions and attitudes characteristic of the Christian life..”

ROE - None of that really matters. The Church doesn't teach what it says it teaches. It teaches what the anti-Catholics say it teaches because some perverted pastor told them in a fiery sermon or they read it in a comic book handout distributed after a good preachin'. The Catechism, Scripture, Encyclicals, and Canon are just vehicles with which to deceive. Stick around here long enough and you will see every sin of the last 2000 years blamed exclusively on Catholics. Its tough not being an elect and having to work for salvation.
