Only someone utterly misinformed would believe that. Paul had no authority in Damascus. But for people who don't know history the story seems perfectly believable.

Um, when Saul of Tarsus was on the road to Damascus he wasn’t going to arrest “Christians” he was going to arrest Jews who were breaking Jewish Law, in his mind.
