What I see is Paul, an apostle chosen by God, the first catechist of the New Church called nuts, inconsistent and teaching one doctrine to one group and another to another..
God does not change..so knowing as protestants we see that the Scriptures actually interpret themselves.. because God is consistent
Of what use is an infallible instrument if interpreted by a fallible person?
Thats what we say about the Catholic church LOL...
How DO you interpret 1 Timothy 2:11-12?
Women are not to have authority in the church ... women are not to be pastors, or teachers of men in the church.
How do catholics interpret that ?
How do Catholics interpret that ?
Oh I would say that Catholics certainly agree with that. However, Protestantism has almost totally embraced heresy with the ordination of women, including women as bishops.
Now, I am well aware that we have plenty of Protestant FReepers who will rush forward shouting, "My denomination doesn't ordain women;" however, the reality is that NEITHER DID ANY OF THE OTHER DENOMINATIONS PRIOR TO THE MID-20th CENTURY. What this tells me is that the denominations that don't ordain women probably will soon and this explains why so many Protestants are fleeing the heresy of Protestantism for the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church (which includes the Orthodox Church).
First, you must understand the Catholic will interpret 1 Timothy 2 in a "condensed" version which supports the typically misogynistic view of the Catholic Church.
1 Timothy 2:
8 I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;
9 also that women should adorn themselves modestly and sensibly in seemly apparel, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly attire
10 but by good deeds, as befits women who profess religion.
11 Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness.
12 I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent.
Throughout 1 Timothy 2 Paul makes it very clear he is speaking for himself and himself only. This is a letter, not Scripture.
