Assuming that Christ had not exhorted otherwise, I could well imagine MD staying within the RCC simply because at his age and with his span of ministry, such a change would not be all that easy and would likely be more troublesome than it might be worth for him or those who could learn from him.

This is a very interesting scenario, Quix. And I would not presume to know what MD would do if this happened. I would love to read his response to this and will follow thread to see.

The first problem I can see is having to stand up against all who would use the "poorly catechised" reaction.

The "more troublesome than it might be worth for him or those who could learn from him" brings me to a quiet contemplation of the scenario. Anyway, I just wanted to respond to your post. It could lead to a very deep conversation with all who seek God with all their heart. Thank you.
