They know that the letters of Ignatius are spurious but they use them anyway as a major authority for their Christianism... Wellllll some of the letters may be authentic or partially authentic. Sorting the truth from the long, mid, and short recensions is; however, a daunting task.
The apologist is content to pick and choose whichever of them suits his purpose and hope the reader doesn't question the source.
