Joseph loved Mary, he was not "sinless" he would have desired to have a physical relationship with her ..no matter how old he was or if he had other children.. for her to withhold that would have been a sin, a violation of their covenant.. this causes a problem for a sinless Mary

Even if he were sinless, it would have been normal for him to want normal relations with his wife. Sex between a legally married husband and wife is NOT a sin. Sex was God's idea from the beginning. Why would He demand that Mary and Joseph abstain? How would that make them more special or holy than the rest of humanity?

The doctrine of the perpetual virginity of Mary is rife with problems from the start.

"The majority of what passes for catholic doctrine is found no where in the scriptures and comes from the imagination or musings of men."

"In order that the full and living Gospel might always be preserved in the Church the apostles left bishops as their successors. They gave them their own position of teaching authority." Indeed, "the apostolic preaching, which is expressed in a special way in the inspired books, was to be preserved in a continuous line of succession until the end of time."

This living transmission, accomplished in the Holy Spirit, is called Tradition, since it is distinct from Sacred Scripture, though closely connected to it. Through Tradition, "the Church, in her doctrine, life and worship, perpetuates and transmits to every generation all that she herself is, all that she believes." "The sayings of the holy Fathers are a witness to the life-giving presence of this Tradition, showing how its riches are poured out in the practice and life of the Church, in her belief and her prayer."

The Father's self-communication made through his Word in the Holy Spirit, remains present and active in the Church: "God, who spoke in the past, continues to converse with the Spouse of his beloved Son. And the Holy Spirit, through whom the living voice of the Gospel rings out in the Church - and through her in the world - leads believers to the full truth, and makes the Word of Christ dwell in them in all its richness."

Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture, then, are bound closely together, and communicate one with the other. For both of them, flowing out from the same divine well-spring, come together in some fashion to form one thing, and move towards the same goal." Each of them makes present and fruitful in the Church the mystery of Christ, who promised to remain with his own "always, to the close of the age".

"Sacred Scripture is the speech of God as it is put down in writing under the breath of the Holy Spirit." Tradition transmits in its entirety the Word of God which has been entrusted to the apostles by Christ the Lord and the Holy Spirit. It transmits it to the successors of the apostles so that, enlightened by the Spirit of truth, they may faithfully preserve, expound and spread it abroad by their preaching.

If you knew a young woman who was about to be married (let's assume that she's not on the Pill or something along those lines AND that she is a virgin which is quite rare today but wasn't 2000 years ago) and you said to her, "you are going to conceive a child."

What do YOU think this young woman's reaction would be? Would she say, "How can this be, I've never had sex?" No, because she would assume that the future event you were talking about would happen AFTER she married, she and her husband would have intercourse and conceive a child. The expected response from the young woman would be one of excitement, maybe a little apprehension, but mainly excitement and joy.

The Blessed Virgin Mary's response in Luke 1:34 ONLY makes sense if she NEVER INTENDED to have intercourse.

No. She was talking in the present tense. She was a virgin and had no husband.

Luke 1:34 And Mary said to the angel, "How shall this be, since I have no husband?"

Grow up.

I don't recall asking you for any advice.

I don't recall asking for your permission.

This thread veered from the original topic almost immediately. That is the nature of threads on FR.

So? I decided to veer back.

Veer wherever you please. You cannot dictate the direction of the thread. Sorry.

Tell you what though, let's veer again shall we. ALL of the Catholics and ALMOST all of the Protestants on this thread believe, as a matter of faith, in the Holy Trinity. You deny the Holy Trinity, so why don't we just talk about that.

Sure. I have answered before and I have no intention of further "testimony".

What sect do you belong to that denies the Trinity?

Obviously I don't belong to the RC sect.

Do you also deny that Jesus Christ is God? If you DO believe He is God, are you a polytheist?

I don't like the tone of your questioning so I choose to ignore it.

True! It would have been a mockery of marriage. Not a true marriage at all.

I think it stems from the Roman Catholic view that sex is bad or dirty and Mary MUST have abstained.

Then add the goddess worship sycretism from the 4th century and you get all kinds of unscriptual speculation.

The perpetual virginity serves no purpose in regards to Jesus and His mission. It does however, reveal a very wrong unbiblical bias towards sex in marriage that adds to the 2 classes of Catholics; those who marry and those holy enough to abstain.

Is that the Reformed version of the Big Lie? Do the Reformed think that if they repeat it often enough, some idiot will fall for it?

Shame on me for tricking you into reading something you would have chosen to ignore had you known it actual source.

I do appreciate that it is only accepted practice to post unattributed quotes from banned anti-Catholic sites but if you keep trying perhaps you can fulfill your wishes and get the vatican.va banned as a hate site.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

There has been a lot of equivocating and weasel words about it from some RC quarters.

Apostate RC’s would logically vote in larger percentages for such traitors.

Though I suppose some RC’s still like to count the apostates in the totals.

Matthew 1:
[24] When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took his wife,
[25] but knew her not until she had borne a son; and he called his name Jesus.

Now, now, OLD REGGIE,

you should know by now that in the

Vatican Daffynitionary . . .

“UNTIL’s” meaning works backwards.

So probably the weasel word meaning is “before.”

Until just doesn’t fit with the magicsterical’s fantasies about such matters so it has to be trashed in its normal meaning.

Do not use pottery language on this thread. Or else. Something terrible will. Happen

No doubt.

All the cracked pots will be lining up for repairs or glaze fixes or the really spiritually mature ones . . .

to be humbly ground into grog to strengthen new pots and minimize warpage . . .

speaking of warpage . . .

I realize RC’s are used to

!!!!!DEMANDING!!!!!

all and sundry kowtowing to their sensibilities and tyrannies.

However . . . y’all do

NOT

have the capacity nor perogative

to mandate my perceptions.

I said what I meant and meant what I said—and that even after an uncommon amount of pausing and prayerfully pondering it before posting it.
