Biases are definitely showing.
INDEED.
Back to grading.
He’ll fit right in.
He is marrying into a very, very Catholic family. His father-in-law to be is a deacon. The family has many Marian devotions.
And then, in May, he came to work for me. He comes over to my house for the first time (I run the business from my house, now), and the first thing he sees when he walks into the living room is a statue of Mary with our family photos surrounding it.
When his fiancée told her mother, she cried.
Of course, being a Knight of Columbus, I have a Form 100 (membership form) waiting for him as soon as the Easter Vigil is done.
I think he is quite overwhelmed.
But really happy.
I know a little bit about his background, and this is a real life-changer for him.

I would have thought the problem was that he was all too effable.
O-Religion Moderator-sama,
I will now commit seppuku and I promise not to get my blood all over your nice clean forum.
“When ridiculed, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we respond gently.”
I bless you, person-who-uses-the-screen-name-Quix.
Goodness.
Wittisisms so late at night.
May that be an indication of you feeling well.
I bless you with all
The Lord Jesus’ wisdom to seek the Father’s Face;
to Follow His Word;
to focus on His priorities;
to seek nothing apart from His Will;
to see nothing but His Truth and Righteousness.
Thanks for the info. You lost me at “opened it in MS Paint.”

Always.
Which is why God made me a devout Catholic.
Blessed be God forever.
Your protestations of intellectual capacity are obviously unfounded.
Hey! This is fun!
First, I didn't say "the lady dogs of Geneva."
Second, this is new to me: somebody persists in discourtesy after discourtesy, falsehood after falsehood, and insult upon insult, and the instant his target, instead of protesting (a word which should be dear to such a person's heart), responds in kind, out come the accusations of hypocrisy!
Thanks for opening up those gates over which dogs preside and against which I have a promise that we will prevail and for giving me a glimpse of what lies inside.
Sure was fun though.
Bed for me.
Holy Cross tomorrow! I heard one of the best sermons on unmerited love on this day in 1973.
I rarely participate in religious threads anymore. If I see some new posters, I MIGHT jump in...but many of the threads involve largely the same folks I discussed things with last year.
To the extent that they involve folks with honest questions, and or a sincere desire to follow God where He leads, they are valuable. Catholics and Baptists are free to have serious disagreements, provided they understand that God will bring us to Him in His way & His timing. But too many of the threads left me feeling dirty...they were appealing to my flesh, my pride, my vanity - and I suspect we all can agree we have too many appeals like that without finding more on the Internet!
If you know you are a sinner who can only be saved by God’s grace thru the sacrifice of Jesus, then you are my brother or sister in Christ. And you are HIS servant, not mine. I can & should share with you, pray for you, seek to encourage you - but never to try to impose my human will on you. When we disagree about the Eucharist, I need to remember that I may be the one in the wrong, too immature to handle the truth.
I guess I would rather join you in prayer than debate something we have already covered. I truly believe that on that Day, we will all shed tears for our many errors and understand the words of Job:
“I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear,
but now my eye sees you;
therefore I despise myself,
and repent in dust and ashes.” - Job 42.5-6 ESV
And then our Lord will wipe those tears, and welcome us home, and when we meet in heaven we won’t even remember what we had once argued about.
It will be like what J Vernon McGhee wrote about predestination & free will:
“Election and free will happen to be one of those...There is a theological argument that rages today on election or free will. There are some people who put all their eggs in the basket of election. There are others who put all their eggs in the basket of free will. Im not proposing to reconcile the two because I have discovered that I cannot. If you had met me the year that I entered seminary, or the year I graduated, I could have reconciled them for you. I never have been as smart as I was my first year and my last year in seminary. I knew it all then. I could reconcile election and free will, and it was a marvelous explanation. Now Ive even forgotten what it was. It was pretty silly, if you want to know the truth...”
Yep.
Only way.
Dive in. No holding back.
Beautiful post, Mr R! :)
Thank you.
nice to hear from you and
GREAT QUOTE!
Poverty, it’s the only way!
YOU TWO!
SIGH
Excellent post.
Thx.
Good seeing your name again.
I tried to stay, but the more I read scripture, the less I believed church teaching... finally one day I realized that I could not longer accept the doctrine as any manner of truth ..and so I left.
I had never heard of "sola scriptura" or "sola fide" .. alll I knew is that the bible did not support the doctrine I had grown up with ...I knew to be faithful to God, I had to leave and I did. That decision was not without cost, all of my friends were catholic.. they no longer talked to me. I lost ministries I loved, but as He did with Job, God restored what was lost with a far greater gain...Christ
Amen, RnMom!
Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved. For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried. Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins. Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place... Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul." -- Psalm 66:8-12,16"O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard:
