Prop 8 Ruling Could Criminalize Christianity, Leaders Warn

(CNSNews.com) – Religious leaders warn that if an Aug. 6 ruling by a federal judge on same-sex marriage is upheld, it could wind up putting a gag on Christians speaking out about homosexuality – a gag that a top Southern Baptist leader says his denomination will not accept.

In a 136-page decision barring California’s Proposition 8, which limited marriage to one man and one woman, U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker found that “Religious beliefs that gay and lesbian relationships are sinful or inferior to heterosexual relationships harm gays and lesbians.”

Mathew Staver, dean of the Liberty University Law School and chairman of the Orlando-based Liberty Counsel, said Walker's finding is shocking, and, if upheld, would have ominous implications for Christians wanting to present the Bible’s position on homosexuality.

“It’s an astounding statement by a judge, and if that finding were to be upheld, it would criminalize Christian beliefs, because the Bible and Christian beliefs historically have clearly indicated that homosexuality is sex outside of marriage – and is contrary to God’s design,” Staver told CNSNews.com

Not really a shock for those that have read all the way to the end. It gets pretty rough before everything gets set right.

The ruling of Judge Walker was crazy. It would set precedent redefining what equal protection means.

That ruling is unconstitutional however that will not stop the judiciary.

You got it. Wasn’t too many years ago homosexuals, etc. were not protected classes under federal discrimination laws.

The landscape has shifted rapidly.

Standing for what is right is a losing, yet winning battle. Hard to wrap your mind around if you have a family.

Mark 13:17 similar Matt 24:19- But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

Walking language was sheer invention, and it was a lawless ruling. He ought to be impeached.

Indeed Jewish, Christian, and Muslim believers find their Constitutionally guaranteed freedom of religion threatened by overcoming Proposition 8. For many followers of the desert religions homosexual behavior is unacceptable. Instead it resides among the myriad sins entrapping humanity that lives in a fallen world with a fallen nature.

For them foundational scholarship concludes homosexual relationships separate believers from God. The Old Testament, holy to “People of the Book”, speaks of the character, identity, and purpose of God in a manner, which continuously addresses homosexuality. God is spoken of as masculine, and all humans become feminine in relation to Him. In addition to creating all things, God created the single institution of heterosexual marriage as the earthy manifestation of the relationship of the absolute unity and love He seeks with each person.

Classical Semitic theology emphasizes searching for, and identifying with God in the spiritual dimension. In order to be “good” actions and thoughts must reinforce the faith commitment to relationship. There are huge numbers of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim believers for whom any subsequent reasoning from scriptures must proceed from that basic understanding. Therefore, instituting gay marriage, when believers reject homosexuality in common life expressions, means they would become guilty by popular acclamation of at least cultural prejudice, which then easily becomes the basis for criminality.

Trying to wind through your response I want to make sure my position is clear.

Homosexuality is a sin before God. Cities and civilizations have paid that price.

The Christian church ( the body of believers, regardless of denomination) is considered the “ Bride of Christ”. That does not make me a female.

In heaven we may no longer have a sexual identity.

Until then we do.

I think it is time for the Government to get out of the bussiness of Mariage and instead start to register couples as partnes ,(a contract as it were)for Earthly and legal and government purposes, and leave the marrying to the various religous groups for ethernal purpouses, this should satisfy most groups and offend none, and everyones right are

In order to be “good” actions and thoughts must reinforce the faith commitment to relationship. Therefore, when we enter into heterosexual marriage there is not a more profound affirmation and acceptance by faith by humans of God’s promise of eternal relationship through an action here on Earth. All other forms of sexual union must be a rejection of God’s promise and hope for relationship with Him. In the Kingdom of Heaven we have a final eternal unity with Him far beyond sexuality.

It gets me that leaders of all three desert religions are not up in arms. For example, remember Ahmadinejad said there were no homosexuals in Iran. He was either delusional or more likely they stoned every one they could find. I am surprised considering his and Wahhabi fanaticism there is not already a fatwa promising 72 virgins and the keys to the kingdom to whoever blows up a judge ruling against Prop 8.
