Her position assertion of course, itself relies upon its own infallible declaration that it is infallible, when speaking in accordance with its infallibly declared formula.
As for your charge that SS leaves everyone to their own devices, as stated before, this is erroneous, as SS affirms that teaching office, as well as reliance upon a body of revelation that is indeed affirmed to be 100% inspired of God. While this involves human reasoning, so does interpreting the statements of the infallible magisterium (IM), and God appeals to reason in persuading souls.
But if you are looking for an assuredly invariably (when speaking in accordance with its formula) infallibly office, which souls can implicitly trust, then you will not find it in Judaism or in the N.T. church.
The appeal of an infallible teaching office which by decree excludes any challenge to conformity from being viable, is strong, and today such is found in cults.
In the Bible, the closest we get to such unchallengeable authority are of men like Moses and the apostles, but whose authority as God's law givers was established by abundant and powerful supernatural Divine attestation, and which servants exampled exemplary personal purity as well as doctrinal integrity with prior revelation. Such men had special purposes, but no office was provided perpetual formulaic infallibility, and the Lord showed how even the Jewish magisterium, to whom the Scriptures were specifically entrusted, (Rm. 3:2; 9:4) could fail. (Mk. 7:1-13) Thus He raised up prophets from outside it to reprove them, whom they often killed, and such helped preserve true faith.
But what God has provided is a body of revelation which is the only objective authority which is affirmed to be wholly inspired of God 100% of the time, and by which all teaching and purported revelation from God can be tested, and thus God commends those noble seekers of truth who examined the very apostles preaching by the Scriptures, and which Paul reasoned out of. (Acts 17:2,11)
Though with this comes the reality that men will have varying interpretations, that is part of the test, but makes the evangelical unity which is based upon that means to be of a higher quality than that which is the result of implicit trust in a self-proclaimed infallible office, and is manifestly effectual in the salvation of souls.
Thanks for your explanation. And I do understand that in the Reformed tradition SS does not necessarily equate with being left to one’s own devices. There are however non denominational churches which do hold to more of a Solo Scriptura than a Sola Scriptura.
I apologize for keeping this so brief, babysitting grandson.
