The 1917 Code of Canon Law, which abolished all ecclesiastical penalties not mentioned in the Code itself (canon 6), made "anathema" synonymous with "excommunication" (canon 2257). There is no ritual or provisions for anathema included in the post-Vatican II revision of the Pontifical. Wow! This claim is amazingly identifical to several found on the internet.
One of them: Plagarized from (by?) the honest one.
However the quote is not only innacurate but meaningless in any event. 1983 Code Of Canon Law - see Canon 6
