Do you not see a massive difference between the verse you posted and the verses I posted??? The people in your verse were under the Law.

That's all well and good, but we cannot what Saint Paul wrote to the Church at Corinth:

If any man's work burn, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire. (1 Corinthians 3:15)

NOTHING that Saint Paul wrote of in Romans 8 precludes Purgatory. Those who refuse to believe in Purgatory typically don't understand that ALL in Purgatory are saved.

But now, long after the discourse in Matthew, things have changed...

I seem to hear variations on this theme A LOT on these threads.

Why were the Gospels even written if everything Jesus Christ said was somehow going to "change" later on? Did Christ not know that the Gospels wouldn't be written for decades after His death?

The YOPIOS crowd seems ignorant to the fact that they were warned about discounting the Word of God in favor of a misinterpretation of Saint Paul:

[15] And account the longsuffering of our Lord, salvation; as also our most dear brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, hath written to you:

[16] As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are certain things hard to be understood, which the unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, to their own destruction. [17] You therefore, brethren, knowing these things before, take heed, lest being led aside by the error of the unwise, you fall from your own steadfastness.
-- 2 Peter 3:15-17

Because the Gospels were spoken and written to Jews...Jews only...Written to Jews before there was a church on the earth...

The church will go up in the Rapture...The Jews will still be here...They again will have the Gospels to lead them, after the church has come and gone...Read Romans 11...
