The term “bishop” is a rather unfortunate one, being used as a title so often.

In so far as ‘hair splitting” is concerned it was something Paul apparently felt necessary as he chastised those who might think of themselves as followers of him. (1 Cor. 1;10-17 and 3:1-9)

Negative. It is correct and well applied to Paul. Paul was also an active evangelist, who ordained bishops throughout his area, leading to the example of subordinate bishops. Not all bishops were Apostles - Timothy and Titus come to mind.

There is a great difference between being the bishop of an area and having the people worship him. There are a few bishops in Church history who fell into that trap. Their skulls line the floor of hell...
